► Visits from Mexico
At the LWI, the IAA and the International Summer School for German Language and Culture: a series of visits to the TU Braunschweig underscores the lively exchange in the strategic partnership between the TU Braunschweig and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
► Jörg Overmann moves from Braunschweig to Munich
Prof. Jörg Overmann, Scientific Director of the DSMZ in Braunschweig since February 2010, will take up the Chair of Molecular Biodiversity Research at LMU Munich in August and will also head all of Bavaria’s state-run natural history museums and collections. In addition to his position at the DSMZ, Overmann was a full professor of microbiology at TU Braunschweig.
► New international research module on drinking water safety
The Institute of Microbiology launched a joint module with the University of Nablus. Medical students from the West Bank and TU biology students are working together with the RKI, DSMZ, the Municipal Hospital and the ZKfN to investigate the effects of climate change on waterborne infections and to find solutions for greater drinking water safety.
► Raising the rainbow flag
Today at 12:30 p.m., the Pride flag will be raised on the University Square as part of CSD Braunschweig. With this gesture, the university is sending a visible signal for diversity, respect and solidarity on campus. All TU members are cordially invited to attend.
► Transfer: €20 million for the life science start-up ecosystem
TU Braunschweig and iTUBS are partners in the GOe FUTURE Startup Factory, which has been successfully evaluated by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The aim is to strengthen the start-up ecosystem in the Göttingen-Hannover-Braunschweig region and increase the number of start-ups in the life sciences sector.
► Future technologies for SMEs
On 28 August, the Braunschweig Chamber of Industry and Commerce, together with TU Braunschweig and Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, is hosting the ‘Innovation Forum 2025’ in Wolfenbüttel. Topics include the digitised process chain, the new EU AI Regulation, the KI4ALL joint project and a virtual tour of the TU’s learning factory (programme and registration).

►Children’s University 2025 – the new season!
The three lectures at the Braunschweig Children’s University 2025 will be held under the motto ‘Recycling’. The dates and programme for the series are now available. Many thanks to Prof. Thomas Dockhorn, Prof. Folke Köbberling and Prof. Arno Kwade for their willingness to give lectures to over 700 children aged between 8 and 12 during the winter semester.
► Two-factor authentication now mandatory for EU funding portal
In the second half of the year, password-based login for the Funding-and-Tenders portal will be disabled. To prevent researchers from encountering unexpected difficulties when submitting applications and managing projects, the Research Service strongly recommends activating two-factor authentication. Here you will find step-by-step instructions for the changeover.
► ZEIT Verlag Fellowship Programme
The one-year fellowship programme ‘Zia’ offers young female scientists the opportunity to further their professional and personal development. The publishing house aims to promote their careers and raise their profile. Applications are open until 31 August.
► GeDiMINT call for proposals Research Impulses 2026
Anyone conducting interdisciplinary research at TU Braunschweig who is interested in how gender dimensions can be relevant in STEM-related fields of research is eligible for support. The call for applications, which is open until 20 January 2026, offers the opportunity to develop your own formats for exchange in order to generate new research ideas.
► Darling of the week
… this time is the ‘ARCH Rundgang 2025’ (ARCH Tour 2025) organised by the Architecture programme. At the annual exhibition organised by a group of students from the Institute of Design and Building (IEB), all institutes of the Department of Architecture opened their doors and presented the best student work.
