► President’s greeting at the turn of the year
It is almost time: We are already looking forward to the days we will enjoy with our families and loved ones over a cosy dinner or a refreshing winter walk. It is the time to reflect and contemplate. It is also time for President Angela Ittel to look back on the year 2022 in a video greeting (with english subtitles) – a year of many firsts, a year of successes and a year of crises.
► We are taking a winter break
From Friday, 23 December 2022, up to and including Sunday, 8 January 2023, all facilities and institutes will be closed. This time, the winter break for employees and facilities has been aligned with the students’ winter holidays to help save more energy by closing for a longer period. We have compiled a list of ways in which you can actively support savings measures, especially in electricity consumption.
► New parent-child room for more visibility for families
President Angela Ittel invited new parents with their offspring to the traditional welcome talk for the second time. The event took place in the new parent-child room in the old building, which was opened and introduced to parents at this event.
► New agreements on mobile working and flexitime
As of 1 January, two new service agreements (DV 49 and DV 50) allow for more flexibility in working time and place of work and offer additional structuring options. Among other things, mobile working is possible to the extent of 40 per cent and a combination of teleworking and mobile working. The exemption for mobile working for the current heating period continues to apply until 31 March 2023.
► Positive results in heating, need to catch up in electricity saving
In October and November, everyone had to deal with the tightened energy situation in everyday life. A lot of energy has already been saved at TU Braunschweig. A short interim report.
► New frog species discovered on Madagascar
Biologists are working against time as the diversity of our planet dwindles: Only the discovery of organisms makes their study and protection possible. An international team led by Prof. Miguel Vences has now discovered 20 new species of frogs.
► Strategies for solving difficult problems
… earned computer scientist Dr. Phillip Keldenich the Heinrich Büssing Prize of the Foundation of the Braunschweig University Association. The award, which comes with 10,000 euros in prize money, recognises him as the “most outstanding young scientist at TU Braunschweig 2022”. Congratulations!
► A vision for Braunschweig’s Ägidienmarkt
… has been created by architecture graduate Janna Vollrath. In her Master’s thesis, she designed an event space high above the street – made using new 3D printing techniques that are being researched at the Institute of Structural Design and SFB TRR 277 “Additive Manufacturing in Construction (AMC)”.
► Department of Architecture showered with accolades
Successful end of the year: The Department of Architecture is very happy about the numerous prizes, awards and recognitions for its students and graduates. We congratulate all the winners!
► Why we help (or not)
This was one of the topics of Prof. Lars Gerhold’s basic lecture on “Social Psychology” – and he did it in a very practical way. Numerous students followed Prof. Gerhold’s wish to bring a small donation for the Braunschweiger Tafel e.V., so that he was able to hand over almost 200 food items.
► Call for applications – Freiraum 2023
With “Freiraum 2023”, the Foundation Innovation in der Hochschullehre is offering up to 400,000 for experimental teaching and learning models from all disciplines.
