Happiness, learning, resilience, sleep and self-care as well as student health and active relaxation and physical activity: Numerous face-to-face and online events will take place from 3 to 7 June under the motto wellbeing@work&study. Employees and students can find out more about wellbeing and health and try things out for themselves.
► European elections: Use your vote!
9 June 2024 is election day in Germany. The National Agency for Erasmus+ and the European Union have published lots of information and helpful tools explaining what the election is about and why you should vote. Whether by postal vote or at the local polling station on 9 June: Just go and vote!
► Campus Hour
The next President’s Campus Hour will take place on 5 June at 13:30 in the 4Lab in the old building. Come along for a personal exchange with your topics, questions and ideas. The President is looking forward to meeting you!
► Sustainable coastal protection for Lower Saxony
How can the coast be adapted to climate change in a sustainable, responsible and careful way? The “Wissenschaftsraum CoastAdapt”, led by the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources, aims to provide answers to this question and, together with the universities of Hanover and Oldenburg, to create an internationally visible coastal competence centre.
► Tree health: More resistant to stress through sulphur
In a joint project, plant biologists at TU Braunschweig are investigating the health of oak and beech trees in the face of global climate change. The aim is to develop possibilities for improved natural immune defence based on sulphur.
► Closing event “Happiness Skills in Primary Schools”
More than 500 children from primary schools in Braunschweig took part in the GlüGS project in the school year 2022/2023. Tobias Rahm and the GlüGS team will report on what the pupils have learned in the GlüGS lessons at the final event on 8 June at the North Campus. Please register!
► Inaugural lecture
Prof. Carsten Schilde, Institute for Particle Technology, will hold his inaugural lecture “Digitale Transformation – Perspektive und Vision für die Verfahrenstechnik” on 4 June.
► Fresh ideas for Magdeburg
Architecture students at the Institute for Sustainable Urbanism (ISU) have developed visions and urban development strategies for a district in Magdeburg’s city centre. All 19 designs are on display in the IBA Shop in Magdeburg until 30 June.
► Music without borders
For 60 years, the Akademische Bläservereinigung AkaBlas has united over 100 active musicians. This year, the 60th anniversary is being celebrated under the motto “60 years of AkaBlas GRENZENLOS”, including a big anniversary concert on 17 August and a borderless anniversary trip to Japan.
► Start of the nomination phase for the new teaching award
Courses for the winter semester 2023/24 and summer semester 2024 can be nominated for the teaching award in the following categories via Stud.IP until 9 June: best lecture, best undergraduate teaching, best seminar, best tutorial/lab, best student teaching: tutorial and best international teaching.
► Vote for Sandküste St. Peter-Ording
The project “Sandküste St. Peter-Ording” by TU Braunschweig, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and WWF Germany has been nominated for the “Blue Compass”, the highest national award for projects to prevent and adapt to the consequences of the climate crisis. Voting in the “Community Award” category is open online until 18 June.
► Open day in the medicinal plant garden
On Sunday, 2 June, the medicinal plant garden of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology will be open to the public. With free admission, visitors can get an overview of the medicinal, poisonous and aromatic plants that are found locally and those that can be cultivated here, as well as plenty of gardening tips.
► Joint strategies for EU research funding
Researchers from our university and Tampere University recently visited the EU Liaison Office of the Cooperation Centre of Science Organisations (KoWi) in Brussels to network and find out more about the Horizon Europe research framework programme. The two partner universities want to prepare joint strategies for European research funding.
► Transfer X Machen
From Lab to Launch: Niedersachsen.Next Startup wants to awaken the founding spirit of researchers and, with the support of iTUBS, invites you to “Transfer X Machen” in Hannover on 5 and 6 September. This is an opportunity to present the research topic and to find potential partners or supporters.
► Digital bouquet of flower
The Internal Audit and Organisational Development unit presents a digital bouquet of flowers to all participants in the survey on the service provided by the central administration. Many thanks for a participation rate of 65%! The results will be presented at the central and decentralised administration jour fixe on 6 June and can already be viewed online.
► Darling of the week
40 exhibits, 3 workshops and lots of colleagues who, for 9 days from 8 June, will give interested pupils an insight into research and degree courses at TU Braunschweig at Europe’s largest youth event, the IdeenExpo, and inspire them for technology and science. Thank you very much and good luck!
