► Initiative from within TU Braunschweig – statements on the BZ reporting

222 members of our university, including 103 professors, have signed a statement within 24 hours as part of a grassroots initiative. There, they express their opposition to the reporting in the Braunschweiger Zeitung on 20 November, which they believe paints an inaccurate and overly negative picture of the university and its management, based on anonymous allegations. The Senate, the TU’s highest governing body, has also issued a statement criticising the BZ article.

► Corporate benefits for employees

Just in time for the upcoming festive season, employees can now take advantage of corporate benefits. The discounts can be redeemed online or in participating shops. The registration details are available in the information portal.

► Representation of severely disabled employees: share concerns anonymously now

The new “Tell us” box allows severely disabled employees and employees with equivalent status to share concerns or tips anonymously and confidentially.

Travelling light: Presentation of the last two teams

The “Contract Review Management” and “Digital and Reduced Forms” teams are working on further advancing the digitalisation of our university. For example, they have examined how well contract management and holiday applications can be realised digitally.

► Project House receives funding for Grounding the Human

The Projekthaus was once again successful with the Science and Art Lab: “Grounding the Human” combines cutting-edge research with international artistic perspectives on healthy living. The project is being developed together with partners in Lower Saxony and Berlin and is being funded with around three million euros from zukunft.niedersachsen. 

► Microelectronics: double EU funding for Braunschweig

The Institute for CMOS Design is receiving a total of 1.7 million euros in EU funding for two research projects. Together with European partners, the teams led by Prof Vadim Issakov and Prof Thomas Kämpfe are working on safe, economical and independent microelectronics for Europe’s technological future.

► Innovators & Explorers: Prof. Jens Friedrichs

How can flying become more sustainable and still remain socially accessible? This is what Prof. Jens Friedrichs and his team at the SE²A Cluster of Excellence are working on: with innovative test benches, interdisciplinary research and global partnerships for the aviation of tomorrow.

► Braunschweig: Becoming a start-up hotspot with deep tech

The QIMP Hightech Incubator supports seven spin-offs from TU Braunschweig. QIMP aims to support up to 30 technology-driven start-up teams in the region by 2028 – with a total of eight million euros.

► Job ticket – retaining young talent in the region

The Braunschweig Region Employers’ Association, Ostfalia University and TU Braunschweig are working together to strengthen the recruitment of skilled labour: in future, companies will be able to publish their job vacancies at both universities simultaneously via the “Stellenticket” portal.

► Kick-off for COIN

The European research project COIN officially launched with a two-day kick-off meeting at our university. Led by the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources, the project aims to improve the reliability, service life and sustainability of future wave power plants.

► Cooperation agreement with the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training

Our Institute of Sociology and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training will work even more closely together in the areas of research, teaching and career development in the future. A cooperation agreement regulates how.

► Prof. Johannes Wienand receives Fellowship from the Historisches Kolleg

Prof. Johannes Wienand of the Institute of History has been awarded a fellowship by the Historisches Kolleg in Munich. He will use the Advanced Fellowship to write a major academic monograph on panegyrics in late antiquity. Congratulations!

► Sprengel Prize 2025 for Sven-Julien Kanclerski

Congratulations to Sven-Julien Kanclerski! The research associate at the Institute for Methodologies of Design and Representation has recently been awarded the 2025 Sprengel Prize, which comes with a prize money of 12,500 euros.

► Fancy a stay abroad?

At the Mobility Office’s Study Abroad Fair on 5 December, employees can also find out about their options for going abroad. Whether it’s a teaching placement or job shadowing – you’ll find all the information you need at the Staff Exchange information table. 

► Call for applications: Roman Herzog Research Prize Social Market Economy

Young researchers from all disciplines can apply for the prize until 31 December. With prize money of 35,000 euros, it is one of the most highly endowed awards for dissertations and post-doctoral theses in the German-speaking world.

► Funding for PhD impact projects

PhD Impact Projects strengthen social impact and at the same time open up new research impulses. From 1 February to 31 July 2026, up to three projects will be funded with up to €1,000 each. Application until 19 December.

► Golden semester reunion

… celebrated by the civil engineers of the 1975 class. 50 years on, our alumni still love coming back to campus. The reunion was organised by the central alumni*ae network.

Fan mail for the children’s university!

The “recycling” lectures impressed children and parents so much that they even sent fan mail. Many thanks to the speakers Prof. Thomas Dockhorn, Prof. Folke Köbberling and Prof. Arno Kwade. There is even more children’s university in the last podcast episode of “Clever nachgefragt!”. Many thanks to everyone involved!

… is not only the best microtechnologist in his year at the Braunschweig Chamber of Industry and Commerce, but also in the whole of Lower Saxony! We congratulate Delijan Seeleke and say thank you to his trainers Bettina Thürmann and Anke Moritz.
