► Double success for TU Braunschweig
Under the leadership of the Project House, the Department of Teaching, headed by Professor Knut Baumann, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, has had two major proposals approved by the “Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre”. The joint project “Campus in Transition” is one of twelve consortia to receive funding out of 227 applications in the new “Lehrarchitektur” funding line with a budget of 480 million euros. In addition, TU Braunschweig will receive one of 68 individual grants for the application “Explorer Master – Learning durch Neugier”. A detailed presentation of the projects will follow in the coming months.
►The mobility transition in concrete terms: alumni*ae in the spotlight
Alumna Merle Schmidt-Brunn provides exclusive insights into innovative solutions, current projects and challenges on the road to sustainable mobility. The Chief Financial and Sustainability Officer of Hamburger Hochbahn will report on the contribution of Hamburg’s public transport system to sustainable development and autonomous mobility on 8 May at 18:30 in the Old Building.
► Science Talk: “All poems are pilot poems”
A science talk with Prof. Jan Röhnert, Institute of German Studies (Department of Modern German Literature), will take place on 29 April at 18:30 in the Science and Art Lab. He will talk about the pop poet Rolf Dieter Brinkmann (1940-1975), in whose poetry the theme of “flying” plays a central role. Waisenhausdamm 8, free of charge.
► Rise up! grant for Prof. Christopher Teskey
Professor Christopher Teskey has received a grant of 600,000 euros as part of the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation’s Rise up! Programme. The funds will enable him and his team to research more efficient methods of molecular editing. This method has the potential to significantly accelerate the development of active substances.
► Hunt/Maynard Award for Prof Bastian Kindermann
Congratulations to Prof Bastian Kindermann! Together with co-authors, he has received the 2024 Shelby D. Hunt/Harold H. Maynard Award from the American Marketing Association (AMA). The award recognizes the “Journal of Marketing” article published in the last calendar year that has made the most significant contribution to marketing theory.
► In search of traffic jams
Can you really avoid traffic jams? And if not, how can you still get through them in a reasonably relaxed manner? NDR wanted to find out and asked Torben Lelke from the Institute of Transportation and Urban Engineering to help them try.
► Transfer Event “Circular Economy & Growth – Utopia or long-established reality?”
What are the characteristics of a circular economy and how can it be designed to benefit people? What is the role of legal frameworks? To discuss these questions, the regional competence centre for labour research KREIS “Designing a circular economy that benefits people” invites experts from business and science to the NFF on 7 May (registration required).
► In memory of Kristin Feireiss-Commerell
Kristin Feireiss-Commerrell, founder of the Berlin gallery Aedes and honorary doctor of our university, died on 20 April at the age of 82. With Aedes, the gallerist, curator, author and publisher created a centre for architectural events. “For more than half a century, Kristin shaped the public discourse on architecture, urbanism and social change with tireless dedication, vision and passion,” writes the Aedes team.
► Knowledge Nugget: Hybrid Teaching
This event on 28 April at 14:30 will provide concise insights, checklists, tools and the opportunity to share experiences and challenges in hybrid teaching formats. Register by email or directly here.
► Registration for Flight Test Laboratories
Students can now register for student flight test laboratories for the summer semester 2025. The Institute of Flight Guidance offers a unique opportunity to investigate scientific questions in practice using the TU research aircraft Cessna F406 “D-ILAB” as a flying measurement platform.
► Online event on the use of the AI Toolbox on 29 April
The Media Lab is once again offering the introductory event “The AI Toolbox – what is it, how does it work and what can I do with it” in cooperation with the Professional and Personnel Development. The latest innovations in the AI Toolbox will also be presented. More information about the event can be found here.
► Major Research Instrumentation: DFG pilot initiative for instrumentation upgrades
Between 1 July and 31 December, the DFG will accept proposals under a pilot initiative aimed at renewing or upgrading existing major research instrumentation to extend its operational lifespan. Proposals are not limited to DFG-funded instrumentation.
