Hydrogen research: Hydrogen Terminal opened

In future, the entire process chain from the production and storage to the utilisation of climate-neutral hydrogen will be researched here. The joint project of the Steinbeis Innovation Centre energieplus and the TU Braunschweig is being funded by the BMBF with over 20 million euros. The test site at the research airport can be visited on 22 June as part of an open day.

Frozen at the North Pole: Alumni Talk with the head of the MOSAiC expedition

The research vessel “Polarstern” spent a year drifting frozen through the Arctic Ocean on a year-long expedition to investigate the effects of climate change in the Arctic. Climate and polar researcher Professor Markus Rex will talk about his experiences on the largest Arctic mission of all time in the Alumni Talk on 25 June at 18:30.

New insights into the formation of tiny cloud particles in the Arctic

Scientists from Braunschweig and Leipzig successfully combined two methods to investigate the formation of new particles over Svalbard: measurements were carried out simultaneously using a tethered balloon system and the unmanned TU aircraft ALADINA. These particles can, for example, influence the formation of clouds and thus have an impact on climate change.

Coastal Protection: Innovation alone is not enough

How coastal communities can protect themselves against natural hazards and extreme events in the long term is the subject of the research project “METAscales”, coordinated by the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources. The scientists want to integrate not only technical but also socio-economic aspects into coastal planning, coastal protection and risk management.

Inaugural lectures from 2 faculties

There will be two inaugural lectures next week: Prof. Oliver Völkerink, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, will hold his inaugural lecture “Wie kann nachhaltiger Leichtbau für die Mobilität der Zukunft gelingen? Mit Funktionsintegration!“ on 26 June, and Prof. Henriette Bertram, Department Architecture, on 27 June about “Vielfalt erforschen und gestalten: Genderperspektiven auf Technik und die gebaute Umwelt”.
