► University Chancellors’ Conference in Braunschweig
On 18 and 19 September, the chancellors of German universities are meeting at the Technical University of Braunschweig. Under the theme ‘Universities – Places of Democracy’, they will discuss, among other things, how universities can strengthen their role as places of democratic culture.
► Itaconate: Small molecule with a big impact
A research team led by Technische Universität Braunschweig has elucidated how the body’s own molecule Itaconate moves within the organism and controls our immune response. The new findings, published in Nature Metabolism, could pave the way for innovative therapies for inflammatory diseases.
► Combined power plant combines energy and water storage
The EWAZ Transfer project is being launched in the Harz region, combining energy storage, flood protection and drinking water security in a novel combined power plant. The specific project approach is to connect existing mining cavities with the existing dams in the western Harz region.
► Elsevier Award for Prof. Ingo Ott
Prof. Ingo Ott from the Institute of Medical and Pharmaceutical Chemistry received the ‘Elsevier Award for Outstanding Achievements in Bioorganometallic Chemistry’ in Paris. His research group develops organometallic compounds with gold, ruthenium and silver as innovative active ingredients against cancer and infectious diseases. Congratulations!
► More awards for the Student House
The Student House won the ‘Nike for Education’ award from the Association of German Architects. It was also honoured with the ‘Debut Work of the Year’ special prize at the Iconic Awards 2025, organised by the German Design Council.
► DLR_Uni_Summer_School 2025: Students take off!
Unique: From 8 to 12 September, students from all over Germany took part in the DLR_Uni_Summer_School, experiencing hands-on research flights and evaluating their data. Organised by the IFF and the DLR, the event offered exciting insights into the world of flight test engineers.
► Information event on the Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship
The Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship supports research stays abroad for a period of 6 to 24 months. On 23 September, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation will provide information about this funding format online.
► Knowledge nugget #9: Communication in teaching – With Element and Instagram
How can interaction be successful even in large lectures? On 29 September, Dr Florian Leydecker (University of Hanover) will demonstrate how he uses tools such as Matrix and Instagram to promote communication, collaboration and closeness – even in large mathematics lectures.
► Maths for the School of Tomorrow
This is the motto of Mathematics Day at Campus North on 25 September. During the day-long training course, teachers from across Lower Saxony will attend practical workshops and lectures designed to inspire them to create forward-thinking maths lessons.
► On our own behalf: Award-winning training
For the seventh consecutive year, our Communications and Press Service has been recognised as one of the winners of the Federal Association of University Communication. The prize is an award for exemplary training of trainees, which is only awarded to six universities nationwide. We are very happy!
► Language courses: Registration opens for TU employees
The Language Centre is once again offering a wide range of German and foreign language courses for the 2025/26 winter semester. Registration for employees begins on 22 September at 9:00 a.m.
► Darlings of the week
… are students from the tenth grade onwards who took part in the AI laboratory at the Institute of Communications Technology – successfully and with microcredit points that can be counted towards future studies. The laboratory provides practical training in how algorithms recognise patterns and make decisions. Excellent!
