► Ice cream on campus

Hot week, cool highlight! Yesterday, ice cream was handed out on the university square by our president Angela Ittel and Vice President Manfred Krafczyk – and not just ice cream, but also good cheer and a little breather in the middle of exam season. Thank you very much for the refreshing treat!

► Research during the summer holidays

At the beginning of August, Technische Universität Braunschweig was transformed into a lively research laboratory: During the five-day summer camp (4–8 August) organised by the Institute for Subject Didactics and Natural Sciences, nearly 37 school pupils from Braunschweig immersed themselves in the subjects of biology, physics and German under the guidance of university students.

► Networking event for university community builders

A networking event for university community builders will take place at the Media Lab on 21 August. The programme includes an exciting keynote speech, examples of best practice in university community work, and opportunities for lively discussion and networking with other community builders from all over Germany. You can register until 18 August by email.

► 20 years of Grüne Schule Braunschweig: a reason to celebrate!

The anniversary celebrations for this outdoor learning centre in the Botanical Garden will begin on 21 August at 4 p.m. with a ceremony in the lecture hall of the Institute of Plant Biology. This will be followed by an open summer party at 5.15pm. To mark the anniversary, a brochure has been published providing an overview of the activities of the last 20 years, as well as upcoming plans within the educational ecosystem alongside the other teaching and learning laboratories.

► Invitation to the monthly digital coffee break: “DFG programmes”

Whether you want to develop project ideas, are planning a DFG application, are collaborating on a project or are interested in the DFG’s individual and collaborative programmes, this relaxed gathering is the place to find answers and inspiration. The virtual meeting, organised by the Research Service, will take place on 2 September.

► Dialogue forum: Gender inequalities in the post-pandemic world of work

The pandemic has exacerbated existing inequalities, particularly affecting women in the workplace, education and care work. This dialogue forum, taking place on 4 September, will assess the current situation and develop joint perspectives for achieving an equal and fair world of work.

► Don’t miss out on calls for research funding

TU Braunschweig offers all its members the FIT newsletter for up-to-date information on funding calls.

► Darling of the week

This week, our darling is a duo: the Victoria giant water lily, whose flowers change from bright white to delicate pink, and the dedicated team at the Botanical Garden who make this natural wonder accessible to visitors with their knowledge, time and care. This fleeting spectacle can only be admired on two nights a year. Although the flowers fade quickly, a visit to the Botanical Garden is always worthwhile.
