► From chip to cure
Fewer animal experiments, more meaningful results and individually optimised medicines: In the EU project UNLOOC, which is funded with 68 million euros, 51 partners want to revolutionise drug research with organ-on-chips. A key part of the technology is being developed by the Institute for CMOS Design at the Technical University of Braunschweig.
► CHE ranking: top rankings for Computer Science and Physics
In the current Master’s ranking of the CHE Center for Higher Education Development, the Master’s degree programs in Computer Science and Data Science as well as the Master’s degree programs in Physics and Solar System Physics received top marks from students at TU Braunschweig for the study conditions.
► Exhibition “Mobility and Christmas”
Photographic impressions and a yellow car can be seen at the NFF until 10 January. 12 photographers from the region present their ideas and motifs on the theme of “Mobility and Christmas” in the NFF gallery. The exhibition is open daily from 8am to 6pm until 20 December and then again from 6 to 10 January.
► First issue of sustainability journal published!
The new TUmorrow Journal 24/25 provides an overview of sustainability-oriented projects and initiatives at TU Braunschweig. It presents contributions from teaching, studies and volunteer work, including the award-winning works and projects of the TUmorrow Awards 2024.
► Ensuring quality of life in a changing climate
In its second project report, the Co-Adapted Braunschweig (COABS) project, in which the Institute for Geoecology and the SpACE Lab of the Institute for Sustainable Urbanism are involved, proposes measures for Braunschweig’s climate change adaptation strategy. The 33 recommendations show how the consequences of climate change can be reduced.
► Does the “natural pump” of trees help during droughts?
In a three-year project funded by the Klaus Tschira Foundation, Dr Matthias Beyer from the Institute of Geoecology and Prof Matthias Bücker from the University of Kiel are investigating the hydraulic redistribution of water by plants. They want to use their findings for agriculture and forestry.
► Lower Saxony State Prize: Professor Schwalb reappointed to jury
Professor Antje Schwalb from the Institute of Geosystems and Bioindication has been appointed to the jury of the Lower Saxony State Prize for a further six years by the Minister President of Lower Saxony, Stephan Weil. The jury consists of up to ten people from Lower Saxony.
► Drones for animal and species conservation
The student initiative AKAMAV successfully participated in the International Micro Aerial Vehicle Conference and Competition (IMAV) in Bristol. Under the theme “Wildlife Conservation”, they came second in the outdoor competition and participated in the indoor competition for the first time, demonstrating the versatility of autonomous drones in wildlife conservation scenarios.
► Constructive experiments in architecture
The conference “Constructive Disobedience”, hosted by the Institute for Construction IKON at the Staatstheater in autumn 2022, is now complemented by a publication of the same name. The international projects presented in the book range from rammed earth buildings and studies of heterogeneous constructions to the rediscovery of natural materials such as hemp and lime.
► Internationalisation Conference at TU Braunschweig
This weekend, TU Braunschweig is hosting the 5th Student Conference on the topic of “Internationalisation of Higher Education”. The three-day event will commence this evening at 5pm with a panel discussion in the auditorium of the Haus der Wissenschaft. All TU staff are cordially invited!
►Submission deadline for innovative projects in ERDF funding line
Applications under the ERDF funding line “Innovation through universities and research institutions” can be submitted until 5 February. Funding is available for innovative and application-orientated cooperation projects with regional companies and/or universities and research institutions. The call for proposals is open to all topics, but should be assigned to at least one focus area of the RIS3 strategy for Lower Saxony. If interested, please contact the team of the Research Services.
► Call for Cooperation: Ways into the theatre
The JUNGE! Staatstheater is looking for cooperation partners from the field of research in connection with the opening of a new venue on the former garrison grounds in the Östliches Ringgebiet of Braunschweig. Judith Sünderhauf and Emily Warringsholz, both from JUNGES! Schauspiel, will present the project online on Friday 13 December at 1pm.
► Free places: First aid course in English
On 27 January, the TrainingProgramme is offering a first aid course in English. The one-day course is aimed at international academic staff, e.g. doctoral students and administrative staff, who would like to learn how to behave in an emergency and how to help if necessary. Registration is via StudIP, registration deadline is 14 January.
► Our six darlings of the week
… have been awarded the Braunschweiger Bürgerpreis 2024 for their outstanding academic achievements and impressive social commitment. Ronja Friedhoff, Lisa-Marie Jalyschko, Luca M. Nieding, Larissa Ornat, Nele Rosenkranz and Georg Schewtschuk were presented with their prizes of 1,500 euros each by the “Stiftung Braunschweiger Bürgerpreis” and two other donors on the traditional St. Nicholas Day. In addition, three students in need were supported with a total of 4,500 euros.
