Topics: Battery production + Peter Dornier Foundation Prize + Research in Dialogue

Editor: János Krüger

► GranuGoIn: More efficient battery production

In the GranuGoIn project, TU Braunschweig is developing a granulate-based process for electrode coating. The process reduces energy consumption and production costs – an important step towards the industrial scaling of sustainable and competitive lithium-ion batteries.

► Peter Dornier Foundation Prize for researchers from TU Braunschweig

Long wings with foldable tips can reduce aircraft fuel consumption. A research team has now developed a new solution based on the Venus flytrap. Patrick Meyer (Technical University of Braunschweig) and Michael Vorhof (Technical University of Dresden) have been awarded the 2025 Peter Dornier Foundation Prize for this innovative combination of textile technology, aviation and bionics. Congratulations!

► Research in dialogue: Gender dimensions in battery research

The project ‘Gender Dimensions in STEM Research (GeDiMINT)’ continues the series ‘Research in Dialogue.’ On 2 September, Dr Evelina Wikner (Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg) will give a lecture entitled ‘Nuances of Driving Dynamics: Exploring Gender Differences and Technological Implications.’ Registration is requested.

► Information about the Henriette Herz Scouting Programme

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation invites you to an online information event on the Henriette Herz Scouting Programme on 20 August. Selected scouts can nominate up to three researchers for a Humboldt Fellowship.

► Transfer project: Jewish life during the Holocaust in picture books

The Bergen-Belsen Memorial is showing the exhibition ‘DrawnTogether’ until 5 October. It features an international selection of picture books that give children aged 8 to 14 a sensitive introduction to the subject of the Holocaust. The exhibition was curated by Dr Tatia Gruenbaum, visiting scholar at the Institute of English and American Studies.

► Victoria Nights at the Botanical Gardens

On 12 and 13 August, the Botanical Garden will be open until late at night for a special occasion: the blooming of the tropical giant water lily (Victoria cruziana). The Friends of the Braunschweig Botanical Garden Association will provide refreshments for visitors.
