► Shaping the future: TU Braunschweig’s new Senate takes up its work
The newly composed Senate began its two-year term of office at the start of the summer semester. It held its constituent meeting on 2 April. President Angela Ittel emphasizes the importance of joint efforts for upcoming challenges such as the implementation of the Ecoversity initiative and important infrastructure measures.
► Reminder: Future Day Photo Campaign
Until Sunday, 6 April, photos of Future Day at TU can be submitted for a photo gallery in the magazine at k.rottig@tu-braunschweig.de. Short captions, the name of the photographer, and a parental consent form are important.
► Participate in CampusXperience
Until 10 April, TU institutions can apply to be part of the “Spielwiese” area at the Summervibes festival by emailing i.stang@tu-braunschweig.de. The festival is part of CampusXperience, which celebrates the diversity of TU Braunschweig from 20 to 22 June.
►Closure of Hermann-Blenk-Straße
Next week (7-11 April) Hermann-Blenk-Straße will be closed.Coming from the east, it is accessible as a dead end up to the construction site. BSVG has set up a shuttle service.
► TU Braunschweig strengthens regional start-up ecosystem
The SMART*UP project ensures that innovative ideas and start-up teams receive optimum support and are successfully transformed into start-ups. The funding of around €1.8 million is being provided by zukunft.niedersachsen as part of its “Science Startups” programme.
► Now also on Bluesky
Since 1 April, we have also been active on the microblogging platform “Bluesky”, thereby expanding our range of social media communications. If you are already active on Bluesky, we would appreciate it if you mention our account in your profile and in your posts.
► “HyTrack” could spy on Android users
Researchers at the Institute for Application Security have discovered a new method for tracking users on the internet. “HyTrack” could allow advertising companies to track users across different apps and the web browser. They will present their research at the USENIX Security 2025 conference in Seattle, USA.
► Chemistry PhD student selected for Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting
Moritz Wolff is a research associate at the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry in the research group of Professor Stefanie Tschierlei. He will participate in the Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau from 29 June to 4 July. More than 30 Nobel Laureates will meet more than 630 young scientists from all over the world.
► Picture of the month
UNESCO has declared 2025 the International Year of Quantum Physics and Technologies. In the month of World Quantum Day (14 April), our picture of the month shows an innovation from Braunschweig that is helping to make Lower Saxony’s quantum computer possible and that works even at the lowest temperatures of four degrees Kelvin.
► NS-regime forced labour: Who is Boleslav Rybczyk?
During the Nazi era, the building that houses the Institute of Architecture-Related Art was home to the Institute of Structural Air Defence. Under the direction of Professor Theodor Kristen, forced labourers were also employed. Architecture students have researched the story of forced labourer Boleslav Rybczyk. On 10 April they will present their findings.
► Research services at Virtual Career Fair
The consortium of the eight US Ivy League members and four other elite universities invites to the “Ivy+ Just in Time Virtual Career Fair” for students and graduates from all disciplines on 10 April. Research Services are represented with an online stand and display current career options in Braunschweig.
► Create visibility for your living lab on the BMWK’s living lab innovation portal
The portal supports the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of living labs. Anyone who wants to see their living lab on a map of Germany can register on the portal. The Transfer Service will be a member of this network.
► Bicycle flea market
On Saturday, 12 April, from 10 am. to 6 pm., you can buy, swap or sell a bicycle at the bicycle flea market organised by the AStA’s Fahrrad- und Verkehrs AG in Eulenstraße. As in previous years, all vendors must register.
► Our darling of the week
… is the team of 40 students and staff who have spent the last few weeks building a special pavilion out of rammed earth and birch bark behind the Grotrian: a “test body with a sky”. The students were able to investigate how the renewable raw materials can be processed and how the wooden formwork as a material influences the overall construction. The house was built as part of an interdisciplinary practical seminar organised by three architectural institutes.
