► TU Braunschweig and TU Delft reaffirm research partnership
On 25 April, a delegation led by Lower Saxony’s Minister of Science Falko Mohrs visited the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft. On this occasion, Dean Henri Werij and Prof. Peter Hecker, Vice President for Research at TU Braunschweig, signed an agreement to intensify joint research into sustainable aviation. There are also plans to extend this to sustainable and multimodal transport.
► Precise measurement data for the energy transition
TU Braunschweig is taking over meteorological measurements on the FINO1 offshore research platform in the North Sea. The data is important for the further development of offshore wind energy. The aim of the research is to gain insights into offshore wind, reduce costs, increase yields and ensure the reliable operation of wind turbines.
► Future technologies in higher education in Braunschweig
On 13 May, the Media Lab und Emerging Tech Lab of the Project House invites you to the Future-Tech:Stage of the University:Future Festival (U:FF) 2025. The focus will be on future technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality and quantum computing – and their use in university teaching.
► TUmorrow Awards & Fairtrade University Award
On 7 May, the Architecture Pavilion will host the “TUmorrow Awards 2025 – Sustainability Awards of the Braunschweigischer Hochschulbund”, with prizes being awarded in four categories. The University will also be celebrating its official designation as a Fairtrade University, a milestone in the institution’s commitment to fair trade. Click here for free tickets.
► IT-Security Awareness Days
To raise awareness of IT security, IT Security Awareness Days 2025 will take place from 12 to 23 May. The online lecture series will cover topics such as password management, digital crime and the risks associated with the use of AI tools.
► Picture of the month: Shape memory material from a 4D printer
The image shows a plastic strand being deposited during 4D printing. 4D printing? The term refers to the additive manufacturing of active structures, in this case with shape memory. The Institute of Mechanics and Adaptronics is investigating these printed shape memory structures, which could be used in medical technology or in aerospace.
► Campus Run – Register now!
The Campus Run is in the starting blocks: runners have until 21 May to register for the Fun Run (5km) or the Main Run (10km).

With this event on 21 May in the Dornse, Braunschweig Zukunft GmbH offers the opportunity to get to know start-ups from TU Braunschweig and the region, to exchange ideas with interested parties and to find out how networks can help to advance your own ideas. Click here for free tickets.
► Host families for international students wanted!
The International House is looking for host families from Braunschweig and the surrounding area who are interested in hosting students from the International Summer Schools for a period of four, six or eight weeks. Both sides benefit from the intercultural exchange and improve their language skills. Students pay a small contribution towards the cost of accommodation.
► Call for Proposals “NEXT – Rethink Neurodegeneration”
Under its NEXT – Rethink Neurodegeneration programme, the Volkswagen Foundation supports high-risk, exploratory research that breaks new ground in dementia-related neurodegeneration within interdisciplinary teams, with the goal of uncovering fundamental disease mechanisms. There is a two-stage selection process applied, starting with an anonymously evaluated short proposal.
► Prepublication Horizon Europe Workprogramme 2025
The European Commission has prepublished the HE-Workprogramme 2025. Here are all informations for the upcoming calls. The program part “Research Infrastructures” (pdf) contains a number of calls from the established destinations “INFRADEV, INFRAEOSC, INFRASERV und INFRATECH”. ► Students help shape the German Protestant Kirchentag in Hanover
Students from TU Braunschweig are participating in the German Protestant Kirchentag, which is taking place in Hanover until 4 May. Twenty participants in a seminar at the Institute for Protestant Theology and Religious Education are presenting a Bible study for young people in one of the exhibition halls.
► Darlings of the week
The growing impact of climate change is posing new challenges for our cities. Our darlings this week are all those who are committed to climate-resilient and liveable urban development. Among them is a team from TU Braunschweig and the Julius Kühn Institute (JKI), which is investigating the health of urban trees. An NDR report in “Hallo Niedersachsen” provides some insights.
