Yesterday, 27 January, the national day of remembrance, TU Braunschweig remembered all victims of National Socialism. The President, Professor Angela Ittel, and student representatives laid wreaths and flowers at the Stolperschwelle in front of the Altgebäude and commemorated the displaced, discriminated, persecuted and murdered.
► Commiserations on the terrible events at the University of Heidelberg
Technische Universität Braunschweig is deeply shocked by the terrible events on the campus of the University of Heidelberg. We are horrified and stunned by the act. Our deepest sympathy goes to the students affected, their relatives and all members of the university.
► Closing vaccination gaps
In order to find a way out of the pandemic, Minister President Stephan Weil is asking the universities in Lower Saxony to support vaccination campaigns to close the vaccination gaps. We are happy to join in this effort. You can find current vaccination offers on the page of the city of Braunschweig! Until at least the end of February, you can continue to get vaccinated on Thursdays in the sports hall at Rebenring. Further information and advice can be found on the websites impfen-schuetzen-testen.de of the state and the Corona vaccination advice service of the city of Braunschweig.

► Certificate for International Competence
As of now, employees of TU Braunschweig now have the opportunity to have international and intercultural experience certified. It is intended to contribute to both personal development and the internationalisation of the university.
► With the whole family in Germany
Together with his wife Elana and their four sons, Professor Aaron Becker from the University of Houston in the US state of Texas will be in Braunschweig until late summer, working as a visiting professor with Professor Sándor Fekete in the Algorithmics Department. His stay has been supported by a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

► Students advise students
Hypotheses, models, statistics and research design – empirical methods are part of many students’ tools of the trade. Anyone who has questions about this complex topic can contact the student association MethodAid. An interview with the initiators.
► Students develop business models for research
A seminar of the Entrepreneurship HUB aims to make scientific research results marketable. To this end, business model approaches are being developed for researchers at TU Braunschweig. Applications for the summer semester 2022 are possible until 15 February.
► A look into the future of the “Haus der Wissenschaft”
Since 1 January, Dr. des. Jeremias Othman has been the new managing director of the Haus der Wissenschaft. Under his leadership, science enthusiasts can look forward to new projects such as the “Salon of Science – Questions for the Future” as well as popular “classics” such as the “Science Slams” in this and the upcoming years.
► New leadership programme
President Angela Ittel and Vice President for Human Resources, Finance and Infrastructure Dietmar Smyrek invite you to participate in the new programme for leaders at TU Braunschweig. Registrations are welcome until 4 February.
► Kick-Off HIT 2022
This year, the HIT will take place online on 9 and 10 June. For a first opportunity to talk, ask questions and get more information, the project team is organising a kick-off meeting on 17 February.
► Protection and support for researchers at risk
The Philipp Schwartz Initiative is calling for nominations of researchers from outside the EU who are facing verifiably significant and acute threats until 4 March. The programme allows for research stays of up to three years as well as a grant.
► Educational standards in focus
The Research Institute of Teacher Education invites you to an online lecture by Norbert Maritzen from the Institute for Educational Quality Improvement (IQB) on 31 January. The topic is: “Educational Standards – From Normativity to Empiricism and Back Again. Research findings on learning in schools”.
► Networking trip for young founders
“Research in Germany” promotes the participation of (aspiring) founders in the “Young Innovators Week” in São Paulo from 23 to 27 May. The aim is to network on-site with companies, startups, peers and experts in German-Brazilian cooperation.
► Darling of the week
What do exams at a campsite, wild flamingos and a flat tyre have in common? It may sound like the beginning of a joke question, but Moses Köhler experienced all this and more during his 2,400-kilometre bicycle trip to Lisbon. You read that right! The 27-year-old TU student combined his passion for bikes and his desire to spend a semester abroad and turned his trip to the Universidade de Lisboa into a “Tour de Erasmus”. On 1 February at 6.30 p.m., he will give insights into this exciting time and answer questions on the Instagram account of TU Braunschweig.
