Hurray, our students are back! On Monday, President Professor Angela Ittel welcomes our first-semester students live. Also guests at the digital welcome breakfast are Professor Melanie Brinkmann, Vice President Professor Knut Baumann and Luca Kienel as student representatives. Students can also ask questions in the livestream.
► Without ribbon
Those who were not involved in the planning may not be able to imagine how much is behind the fact that students can safely check in for the face-to-face events with the help of the Intake process (and what you may sometimes have to deal with). Many thanks therefore to all those in administration, the Gauss IT Center, faculties and institutes who make this solution possible!
► Peppers and tomatoes on tubes
In the Hypowave+ project, vegetables grow directly on recycled water – without soil. The ambitious goal of the Institute of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering: Up to 700 tons of food should land in local supermarkets.
► Keeping a close eye on the safety of bridges
Doctoral student Johannes Rathgen has an even closer eye on the condition of concrete components with variable heights. As part of Research Training Group 2075, he is investigating how to predict even more accurately how which structural component is currently doing.
► We are reading!
The video reading marathon „Eine Uni – ein Buch” starts on Tuesday. To make sure the whole university is reading you can either come to University Square between 11 am and 1 pm or read digitally (contact) a page of the novel. At the end, a montage, created from all the clips, brings the book back together.
► The Mensa lunch break is back
Finally, lunch break with colleagues in the Mensa again, without distance and mask requirement. At the start of lectures on October 25, Mensa 1 will open the dining hall. The 2G rule applies there. To access the Mensa, guests must register in advance via the Studentenwerk web app.
► For the 40th time: Summer School
In the corona-conform hybrid format of the international summer school, 18 students from America, Africa and Europe expanded their German language skills and gained insights into the culture, history and politics. Most of the participants stayed at Carolo-Wilhelmina for the winter semester and are following up with an exchange semester.
► One of about three million
Do you know students who show outstanding commitment beyond their studies? Then you can nominate them as Student of the Year to the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers and the Deutsches Studentenwerk.
► University Contest in the Year of Science 2022
Until November 30, (PhD) students and young researchers can submit project outlines that aim to build bridges between the public and research. 10,000 euros await the best ideas, which encourage participation in research.
► Congratulations …
… to Professor Reza Asghari! The student initiative Enactus Germany awarded the head of the Entrepeneurship Hub as “Germany Best Faculty Advisor of Year 2021”. The global NGO Enactus aims to solve social and ecological problems with the help of innovative start-ups.
► Input for parents
Home office, homeschooling and closed daycare centers: the pandemic has thrown the everyday life of many families into disarray. The Family Office is addressing this situation and offering online input for parents on November 4 and December 1 at 7 p.m. each day.
► FEMentoring for young female researchers
FEMentoring supports young female scientists at our university in their careers and prepares them for academic selection processes. The application deadline is October 31.
► French-German Project Funding
The French Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) support French-German research projects in the natural, life and engineering sciences. Application deadlines are January 11 (DFG) and 12 (ANR).
