The most important information on energy-saving measures is offered centrally on a completely renewed German- and English-language website for staff and students. In the login area you will also find important circulars, handouts and other current information for download.

► EXDIMUM joint project investigates extreme water events

Even in the “temperate latitudes” of Central Europe, both drought and heavy rainfall events are increasing dramatically. The EXDIMUM research project addresses a spectrum of complex challenges posed by these extreme weather situations.

► Reliability and service life of power electronics

The Institute for Electrical Machines, Traction and Drives (IMAB) is conducting research on efficient and compact power electronics components in the joint project NetFlexum.

► Productive Neighbourhood

The joint project Urban Factory II is investigating the potential of urban production with partners from universities, institutions and industry. “Besser Smart” spoke to Michael Bucherer from the coordinating Institute for Construction Design, Industrial and Health Care Building.

► MacGyver is back

What do you do with discarded e-scooters? In the course “MacGyver Sustainable Entrepreneurship“, teams of students looked for creative and sustainable solutions. The most creative prototypes were awarded prizes.

► Female Physicist of the Week

When someone becomes ” Female Physicist of the Week”, of course, it has to be in “The Week”. We congratulate Professor Stefanie Kroker on her award from the German Physical Society.

► Congratulations

… to Professor Beate Muschalla from the Institute of Psychology! For a representative study on the topic of work-related anxiety, she was awarded the Boxberger Rehabilitation Research Prize Bad Kissingen.

… also to Dr. Nadine Madanchi. She has been awarded the 5,000 euro Manfred Hirschvogel Prize for the best dissertation at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. She has developed a systemic approach to the energy and resource efficiency of machining systems

► In focus: Wilhelm Raabe

A poster exhibition by students of the Institute of German Studies can be seen on the North Campus until 30 November (BI 97, Foyer). It presents Wilhelm Raabe as an author, his era and selected works.

► A lot of Mail from …

has reached us this week. Exchange student Shakunthala Natarajan from India reports on her first months in Braunschweig, while students Aileen Brendel and Leif Tönjes tell us about their experiences in Iceland.

► International faces

People from all over the world work, study and research on our campus – like Hussein Sahyouni, for example, who has been working as an IT administrator in the International House since February 2021. The mobile vaccination team will once again be making a stop on campus every Thursday through Dec. 15. At the vaccination campaign in the Audimax foyer,booster vaccinations will be offered.

► The joint Seed Funding Call

… between the University of Strathclyde and TU Braunschweig is aimed at scientist. The information event on 22 November is open to all interested parties.

► Funding for refugee Ukrainian academics

MSCA4Ukraine supports projects of refugee researchers or doctoral students at European universities. If you are interested in submitting an application, please contact Eva Kremshuber from the Research Service by email.

► Digital bouquet

goes to the Managing Director of Faculty 6, Dr. C. Konrad Schäfer, for his commitment to saving energy. With a great deal of organisational skill, he has managed to reschedule several hundred course dates so that they can take place in only two energetically favourable buildings on the North Campus. A great example that not only improves the energy balance, but also makes heating times more manageable for building management.

► Darling of the week

“Club instead of lecture hall” is the motto on 17 November, when professors and lecturers from the TU, Ostfalia and the University of Fine Arts will once again be DJing in Braunschweig’s discotheques at Profs@Turntables. Dr. Marcus Friedrich, research assistant at the Institute for Educational Psychology and a passionate DJ for 25 years, reveals in an interview how much science lies behind DJ work.
