► “Science Spaces” for Lower Saxony

The “Science Spaces” funding programme supports cooperation between Lower Saxony’s universities and non-university research institutions. TU Braunschweig is involved in one of the 16 projects as the lead organisation and twice as a participating institution: CoastAdapt – Knowledge and Innovation Ecosystem Coastal Engineering & Coastal Research, Science Space Microelectronics: Heterogeneous Chiplet-based Systems in Research and Teaching and Teaching Labs for the Analysis and Promotion of Core Teaching Practice.

► Picture of the month

The picture of the month shows the argon plasma of an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) at temperatures up to 10,000 Kelvin. The ultra-modern device for elemental trace analysis analyses liquid samples. This plays an important role in the development of sustainable energy technologies and future-proof battery systems.

► More practice in teacher training

In classroom management training, students try out appropriate behaviour strategies to help them cope with pupils in their future careers. In an interview with “Campus Schulmanagement”, Dr Gesa Uhde talks about her research.

Schinkel Award goes to Antonia Stöcker

Graduate Antonia Stöcker has been awarded first prize in the AIV Schinkel Competition for Architecture for her Master’s thesis “Projekt Furi – tanz aus der Reihe”, which was developed at the Institute of Building Design under Prof Dan Schürch. In it, she shows how traditional terraced house typologies can be restructured to meet the needs of the future.

Inaugural lectures

There will be two inaugural lectures next week – on 7 May: Prof. Mehtap Özaslan, Institute of Technical Chemistry, about “Elektrokatalyse und der Weg zum grünen Wasserstoff and on 8 May: Prof. Simona Silvestri, Institute of Space Systems, about Orbital Symphony: Orchestrating technologies for a sustainable space transportation system.

The free innovation festival from 4 to 13 June offers a platform for science and business to exchange ideas on the transformation of mobility. Specialist presentations, exclusive tours and networking opportunities at eight locations will provide an opportunity to share expertise, exchange ideas and tackle the challenges facing the mobility industry together.

► Get your running shoes ready for the campus run!

Sign-up for the 14th Campus Run of the University Sports Centre on 26 May has started. Traditionally, a 5 km fun run and a 10 km main run are available.

► GAMM Junior Research Group

Students and doctoral candidates founded a junior research group of the Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM) to promote interdisciplinary cooperation between young researchers from related fields. All interested are invited to the founding party on 8 May from 6 pm behind the old main building.

► Darling of the week

Our darling of the week was able to inspire many curious young faces for the world of science last week. On 25 April, this year’s nationwide Future Day, numerous institutes offered exciting insights into various fields of study and work. We accompanied pupils to activities organised by the SE²A and QuantumFrontiers clusters of excellence and the Automotive Research Centre Niedersachsen.
