► Fostering open exchange
In glorious late-summer weather, good spirits and a great atmosphere, a hundred digitally selected employees came together in the festively decorated foyer of the Okerhochhaus for the third annual staff celebration. You can take a look back at the event in the picture gallery in our magazine.
► TU Braunschweig welcomes new students
Here we go again! On 14 October at 9 a.m. TU Braunschweig welcomes all first semester students in the Eintracht stadium. A varied and international programme awaits the new students. This will be followed by an information fair on the central campus. The Welcome Week for new international students takes place from 7 October.
► Better understanding the causes of disease with quantum computing
An international research team has developed “NeEDL”, an AI tool for analysing complex genetic connections. This tool identifies genetic interactions that influence many hereditary diseases and were previously difficult to recognise. The genetic dependencies identified can help in the development of therapies.
► Lower Saxony relies on TU’s expertise in digital law
Together with the TU’s Digital Innovation and Transformation Law Hub, the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport has launched a research project in the context of administrative digitalisation. The aim is to redesign and adapt administrative law to make it fit for the future.
► 400,000 years of climate change
Lake Petén-Itzá in Guatemala stores information about climate and environmental changes over the last 400,000 years in the sediments at the bottom of the lake. In his doctoral project at the Institute of Geosystems and Bioindication, Dr des. Rodrigo Martínez-Abarca analysed these changes on three time scales.
► Cuban-German collaboration in cancer therapy
Dr Gertrudis Rojas Dorantes from the Centro de Inmunología Molecular (CIM) in Havana is now a guest at the Departments of Biotechnology and Medical Biotechnology for the sixth time. Together with Dr Maren Schubert, she is working on an improved therapy for various types of cancer by modifying the immune response using the body’s own stimulants.
► Jana Raupbach is Junior Professor at the Institute of Food Chemistry
Following her research work at the German Institute of Human Nutrition in Potsdam-Rehbrücke, she was appointed junior professor at TU Braunschweig in April: Jana Raupbach is researching factors that influence human digestion.
► Future City annual retreat: Register now!
The Core Research Area “Future City” invites you to the annual retreat on 24 and 25 October. This interdisciplinary event is an opportunity to make new contacts and develop research ideas together. The invitation is open to researchers of all career levels and faculties. Information on the programme and registration can be found on the Future City website.
► Taster session in the maths didactic teaching and learning lab
This year, 139 maths enthusiasts from 33 schools applied for one of the 22 Year 3 places on the Maths Learning Workshop (LWS) support programme. The LWS is all about having fun with numbers, shapes and structures, encouraging the joy of problem solving and stimulating intellectual curiosity.
► ISCN Best Practices Report
The Green Office is part of the ISCN Best Practices Report. This contains 45 case studies from 36 ISCN members, which present their commitment to promoting sustainability at universities and are intended to inspire and guide.
► iTUBS Transformittag
The next iTUBS Transformittag will take place on 29 October from 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Haus der Wissenschaft. Under the motto “Even more transfer”, the morning will offer inspiring ideas, exciting discussions and networking opportunities.
Apply now: Good Language Teaching at Universities
The Arbeitskreis der Sprachenzentren an Hochschulen e.V. (AKS) is once again honouring outstanding language teaching at universities. Teachers and lecturers from AKS member universities have until 15 December to apply in three different categories.
► VolkswagenStiftung announces Scoping Workshops
Until 29 October, researchers have the opportunity to apply for “Scoping workshops”, funded by the Volkswagen Foundation in order to jointly assess the current status of their field of research and, on this basis, to work out perspectives for its further development.
► Renovation of the “Oase25”
The “Oase25” Sandkasten project in the heart of the central campus has a long history. Now that “Oase25” is showing its age, it is time to renovate it. We are still looking for helpers with an interest in handicrafts who would like to contribute to the beautification of the university square.
► Darling of the week
… are all employees affected by the partial evacuation of Lange Kamp 8 and all institutes that quickly stepped in and provided office space as an alternative for employees who could not work from home. We would like to thank all employees for their understanding and immediate support in this difficult and complex exceptional situation!
