Statement by the Senate of Technische Universität Braunschweig regarding the current reporting by the Braunschweiger Zeitung
As the central body of the university’s self-administration, the Senate of Technische Universität Braunschweig takes the public perception of our university very seriously. We consider distorted reporting to be problematic, especially when, as in the 20 November 2025 article in the Braunschweiger Zeitung, key statements are based on anonymous sources and unsubstantiated claims.
The Senate works together with the Executive Board to shape the course of the university, adopting a critical and constructive approach based on democratic procedures. In doing so, we collaborate closely with the President, Professor Angela Ittel, and the entire Executive Board. We make decisions carefully and always for the benefit of the entire university community. As senators, we are in constant dialogue with the entire university community.
Like other universities, TU Braunschweig faces a variety of challenges, and we are committed to finding solutions to these. As Senate members, we take constructive criticism seriously and incorporate it into our university’s development.
The narrative in the Braunschweiger Zeitung is false. For example, sustainability and diversity do not conflict with excellence in research and teaching. Such misleading representations damage public perception of TU Braunschweig, hinder scientific work, and jeopardise trust in our institution.
