Farewell to Professor Reinhold Haux Former Director of the PLRI for Medical Informatics retires
Technische Universität Braunschweig has bid farewell to Professor Reinhold Haux of the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics (PLRI) on his retirement. Prof. Haux was the managing director of the PLRI from 2007 to 2017, the only institute that TU operates jointly and interdisciplinarily with the Hannover Medical School.
Haux studied Medical Informatics at the University of Heidelberg and Heilbronn University. After completing his studies in 1978, he received his doctorate (Dr. rer. biol. hum.) from the Faculty of Theoretical Medicine at the University of Ulm in 1983 and his habilitation in Medical Informatics and Statistics at RWTH Aachen University in 1987.
After professorships at universities in Tübingen (1987-1989), Heidelberg (1989-2001) and Innsbruck (2001-2004), he followed a call to the Carolo-Wilhelmina in 2004. From 2011 to 2013 Prof. Reinhold Haux was Dean of the Carl-Friedrich-Gauß Faculty, and from 2013 to 2015 he was a member of TU Braunschweig’s Senate.
Research on intergenerational future
Haux also worked closely with the city of Braunschweig and its institutions. Whether it was field research together with senior citizens, whose flats he had equipped with the most modern infrastructure for research purposes, or participation in projects such as the Lower Saxony research association “Gestaltung altersgerechter Lebenswelten” (GAL) (Designing Living Environments for the Elderly). In his work, Prof. Haux has always been concerned with questions of shaping intergenerational futures, as can also be seen in the project “Braunschweig2030 – Gemeinsam. Live. Gestalten” (Braunschweig2030 -Together. Live. Shaping) project with the city in 2015.
