Women in the History of Sociology 9. November 2022 - 11. November 2022 | 12:00 h - 13:00 h
From November 9-11, the International Conference of the Sociological History Section of the German Sociological Association will take place at the TU Braunschweig. Under the title “Women in the History of Sociology”, social scientists from different countries will meet to discuss the relevance and significance of women in the history of science using the example of the social sciences. Participation in the hybrid event is possible online. Please register by November 1 (see program).
Our aim is to (re)bring to light the achievements and merits of women scholars and to raise the question of their relevance. We want to ask whether there are works, approaches, and perspectives that have been forgotten – for whatever reason – but whose re-reading is essential for today’s discipline, and we want to discuss them anew from today’s perspective. This includes the analytical question of the practices, institutions, patterns of thought, fields of knowledge, and power relations that caused and legitimized their (earlier) forgetting, as well as the methodological question of research strategies to “rediscover” and “recover” forgotten bodies of knowledge in history.
