Honouring long-serving employees and farewells
For the third time, Technische Universität Braunschweig invited guests to the Architecture Pavilion to honour long-serving employees for their 25 and 40 years of service and to bid farewell to colleagues who will be retiring in 2025. Vice-President Dietmar Smyrek (Human Resources, Finance and Infrastructure) presented the personal honours and confidently guided the guests through the varied programme. The event was organised by the Executive Board in collaboration with the Human Resources Department, which was responsible for the organisation and running of the event.

“We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to you for dedicating your energy and creativity to TU Braunschweig and for shaping our university through your many years of outstanding work,” said Vice-President Dietmar Smyrek to the long-standing employees and the brand-new retirees. “Finally, I would like to emphasise how grateful we are that you have all been and continue to be part of TU Braunschweig.”
Equality Officer Ulrike Wrobel also highlighted the honourees’ commitment to the university: “Through your many years of service to TU Braunschweig, you have demonstrated determination and thus contributed significantly to the stability of our university. Just as equality is a marathon in which we repeatedly get back up together, you too have overcome obstacles over many years, taken on responsibility and thus created an environment in which students and employees can flourish. Equal opportunities thrive on perseverance and on people like you!” She added: “I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your commitment, your knowledge and your loyalty. May the coming years be as enriching for you personally as those you have already spent with us.”
“Your years of service are not only an impressive number, but also tell stories: of change, challenges, team spirit and joint progress. They stand for continuity, experience and the foundation on which new things can grow,” said the new chairman Marcel Gey on behalf of the staff council. “We at TU Braunschweig are proud of you! Some of you have worked for the good of our university for several decades, or are still doing so. And quite a few of you have also been active as volunteers in our TU committees for decades!”
Following the ceremonial presentation of certificates, those present gladly accepted Vice-President Dietmar Smyrek’s invitation to engage in conversation over light refreshments, exchanging experiences and looking back on many years of collaboration.
