Soundcheck: Studying music at TU Braunschweig Register now for the admissions exam and preparatory course
The Institute for Music and Music Education at Technische Universität Braunschweig is offering two events to provide information about the study programme in music/music education and the required admissions procedure. A preparatory course is also offered for the aural training and music theory exam. This starts on 16 April.
The programme at TU Braunschweig is practice-oriented and musically diverse – from classical to pop. In terms of content, the focus is on didactics, science and music practice in contemporary music cultures (popular music, film music, new music) and digital media.
In view of current developments, the institute also offers electronic music as an artistic major within the framework of teacher training. This allows students to develop their own individual study plan from predefined components such as DJing, live electronics or sound design.
Even if the two-subject bachelor’s degree programme is designed to prepare students for the master’s programme in teaching at primary, secondary and secondary modern schools, the programme also prepares students for other advanced music-oriented degree programmes as well as for various professional fields in the cultural sector and in extracurricular music education.
Admissions procedure in June and July
A requirement for studying music at TU Braunschweig is a so-called admissions procedure, which applicants must successfully complete. This includes an audition, an aural training and music theory exam, and an interview. With the appropriate qualifications, it is possible to study without a university entrance qualification. For those wishing to begin their studies in the winter semester of 2025/2026, the assessment procedures will take place on 4 and 19 June and 2 July 2025 in person. The registration deadline is one week before the respective examination date.
Preparation for the admissions procedure exam
To prepare for the exam, the Institute for Music and Music Education is offering a course in music theory and aural training in which the contents of the exam are discussed and practised. The course starts on 16 April with preparation strategies, before continuing with further exercises in May.
To register, please email Dr. Antonios Adamopoulos: a.adamopoulos@tu-bs.de. Those who decide to participate at short notice are also welcome to come to the course unannounced.
Info events and taster workshops
Before the assessment procedure, teachers from the Institute for Music and Music Education also offer information events to provide an opportunity to find out about the procedure and content of the aptitude test, as well as to get to know the institute and the programme better.
Second-semester students share their experiences of the last assessment procedure and the first year of study. The student representatives of the music student body introduce themselves and report on their work and everyday student life. There will also be a tour of the institute.
