Practice-oriented and versatile: studying Music at TU Braunschweig Register now for entrance examinations and preparatory courses
The Institute of Music and Music Education at Technische Universität Braunschweig is holding two events to provide information about its entrance examination and is looking forward to receiving applicants for a Music degree by the 31st of May 2023. For the first time, a preparatory course will also be offered for the written examination on aural training and music theory. This course starts on April 5th.
Courses at TU Braunschweig are practice-oriented and musically diverse – from classical to pop. Taking into account current developments, Electronic Music can also be studied at the institute as an artistic main subject within the context of a teaching degree. Here, students can develop their own individual study plan from given components, for example DJing, live electronics or sound design.
Even though the double major Bachelor’s programme prepares students for the Master’s programme in Teacher Training for Grundschule, Hauptschule and Realschule, the programme also prepares students for other postgraduate music-oriented degree programmes as well as for various professional fields in the cultural sector and extracurricular music education.
Entrance examination in June
The prerequisite for studying music at TU Braunschweig is a successfully completed entrance examination (in German), which includes an audition, a written examination on aural training and music theory as well as an interview. For the start of studies in the winter semester 2023/2024, the entrance examinations will take place in person on 12, 21 and 29 June 2023. The registration deadline is the 31st of May 2023.
Preparation for the entrance examination
To prepare for the written exam, the Institute of Music and Music Education is offering a course in music theory and aural training for the first time, during which the contents of the written exam will be discussed and practised. The course starts on April 5th with preparation strategies, before continuing in June with further exercises.
Please register by e-mail to Dr. Antonios Adamopoulos: a.adamopoulos@tu-bs.de. Those who decide to participate at short notice are also welcome to come to the course unannounced.
Information sessions in May
Before the entrance examination, the Institute for Music and Music Education will also offer an opportunity to get information about the procedures and contents as well as to get to know the Institute and the degree programme better.
Staff members of the Institute will give insights into the examination as well as the degree programme and its contents. Second semester students share their experiences of the last entrance examination and the first year of studying. The student representative group, consisting of elected student representatives from the Music department, will introduce themselves and report on their work and everyday study life. There will also be a guided tour of the institute.
The following times are offered:
- 10 May 2023, 4-6pm, in person at the Institute for Music and Music Education, Rebenring 58, Kleiner Musiksaal (basement)
- 17 May, 4-5:30 pm, online.
Please register by e-mail to Isabell Bötsch: i.boetsch@tu-braunschweig.de.
