► Battery boom meets fire safety

From 30 September to 1 October, the 39th Braunschweig Fire Protection Days will focus on the risks of high-voltage storage systems and stationary battery systems. This year, the conference organised by the Institute for Building Materials, Concrete Construction and Fire Safety will take place in the Audimax.

► Anniversary: 100 years of the elenia institute

For a century, the Institute has shaped research into the electrical energy supply, covering everything from high voltage to renewable energies. The anniversary year will be kicked off on 1 and 2 October with the “Festkolloquium elenia 100” celebration. Prof. Christian Kehrt reflects on a significant chapter in scientific history.

► The director of the Botanical Garden is retiring

Michael Kraft played a key role in shaping the Botanical Garden for almost four decades, working as a gardener, director, networker, and enthusiastic storyteller. He has rebuilt greenhouses, saved areas from destruction, introduced the public to the garden, and inspired generations of students. Braunschweig’s “green thumb” is now retiring.

Werner Baltes Award for Jana Raupbach

How do vegan alternative products change protein structure during processing, and thus affect our digestion? This question is addressed in the research of Jun.-Prof. Jana Raupbach. She received the 2025 Werner Baltes Award for her work at the Food Chemistry Days in Halle (Saale). Congratulations!

► Language development in the daycare centre

In this episode of the German Education Server podcast, Dr Oliver Hormann (Institute of Educational Science) presents the “Feel, Think, Speak” training concept, which is integrated into everyday life. This concept supports educational professionals in adapting their conversational behaviour to the specific interests and language levels of the children.

► Online survey provides insights into the acceptance of international teaching

As part of the ProDiGI project, an online survey was conducted to gauge students’ views on international teaching programmes. The results show that many students view these programmes as valuable opportunities for their future international careers. The results of the teacher survey will be published at the end of the year.

► Awards for TU start-ups

From AI-supported manufacturing solutions to reusable rockets: Two start-ups from our university won this year’s DurchSTARTer award from NBank. LBR Engineering UG, a start-up specialising in mechanical engineering, took first place in the Newcomer/Scale-Up category. Gaia Aerospace took third place in the Science Spin-offs category. Congratulations!

► DFG website on funding acknowledgements

What is required for a funding acknowledgement, and how should it be written? Answers to this and other questions about funding acknowledgements can be found on a new website from the German Research Foundation. The website also includes suggested wording in both languages, as well as practical advice on common queries.

► “STADT DER ZUKUNFT informiert”

Exploring and shaping future living environments across faculties – that is the goal of “Future City”. On 9 October, interested parties can find out more about the Core Research Area and how they can get involved. The event starts at 2 p.m. in PK 4.111 in the Old Main Building. No registration necessary!

Speakers wanted: Online symposium “Global Citizenship in action”

On 9 November, our university is organising an online symposium on the topic of global learning together with the Feinstein College of Education at the University of Rhode Island (USA). We are still seeking speakers for the event and proposals can be submitted until 30 September.
