► Time for “active ideas management” at our university
How can processes and services at our university be improved? A new tool in the information portal offers all TU members the opportunity to submit their own suggestions.
► “Travelling light”: New Work
The team shows how flexibly campus spaces can be used in the future. The white list enables quick DIY room design, “Where-can-I-work?” shows free learning and workspaces directly in the campus map and the campus neighbourhoods create long-term structures for room swaps, collaboration and communal areas. More on the project website.
► Orange Day: International Day to End Violence against Women
There is no place for violence against women at our university. To show this, the Equal Opportunities Office invites you to take part in a campaign on University Square on 25 November. It starts at 10 a.m. – anyone who wants to can show their solidarity by wearing an orange garment.
► Combating marine litter in Brazil with a circular economy
In collaboration with Brazilian partners, the Waste and Resource Management Division of the Leichtweiβ Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources is working to reduce marine litter significantly by improving waste management systems and establishing a circular economy. The PROMARES project has received six million euros of funding from the Federal Ministry for the Environment.
► Save up to 50 per cent energy – New impetus for climate-neutral aviation
In its new publication “The Energy-Efficient Aircraft of the Future”, the DGLR shows how traditional aircraft design disciplines can make a decisive contribution to climate neutrality by 2050. The paper, which was developed in collaboration with experts from TU Braunschweig, outlines measures to achieve this.
► New method for recording tyre abrasion
Abrasion from car tyres is one of the most significant sources of fine particles in road traffic. TU Braunschweig and Continental have tested a new measuring method to record their formation more precisely. The aim is to optimise tyres and reduce emissions.
► More safety for autonomous driving
TU Braunschweig is developing new safety concepts together with industrial partners in the CONTROL research project. The aim is for vehicles to react reliably even in rain, fog or unexpected obstacles.
► 2 x TU Braunschweig in European steering committee for organ-on-chip
Congratulations to Dr Liubov Bakhchova (Institute for CMOS Design) and Dr Thomas E. Winkler (Institute for Microelectronics)! These two scientists have been elected to the twelve-person board of the European Organ-on-Chip Society (EUROoCS).
► Artistic research in the semiconductor laboratory
In spring 2026, British-Spanish artist Louise Ward Morris will be Artist-in-Residence at the Science and Art Lab. During her residency, she will collaborate with scientists from the Nitride Technology Centre (NTC) and pursue her own artistic project.
► Coastal research on ZDF
The ZDF “Plan B” documentary “When the Water Comes” focuses on the coastal protection research of scientists at the Leichtweiß Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources, showing how marram grass stabilises dunes and contributes to protecting endangered coastal regions.
► Christmas Greetings
The TU Christmas card is once again available as a print-ready PDF and as a digital card in the CD toolbox and can be customised for printing in InDesign and PowerPoint.
► Continuing education programme for all employees
The Professional and Personnel Development training programme for the first half of 2026 is here – and offers employees the opportunity to implement their New Year’s resolutions straight away. For example, through the “Time and self-management” pilot project. Registrations are possible from 1 December at 10 am.
► Focus instead of constant stress – deep work as a way (back) to concentration
Dr Wiebke Vogelaar will be talking about this topic in the next edition of “Impulshäppchen” on 24 November. No registration is required, just come along to the digital event organised by the central HR training centre!
► Knowledge nugget #11: ChatAI as a learning buddy
AI can support students in their learning and relieve teachers. Marvin Westerveld will show how this works on 27 November. To registration.
► Science and Art Lab moves into the Old Building
At the opening on 27 November at 6 p.m., Ulrich Woelk will read from his two novels. Afterwards, Susann Schwaß, lecturer at the Institute of German Studies, will lead a discussion with the author. This event marks the opening of the Science and Art Lab’s new space on the ground floor of the old building (006).
► Great joy for little guests
… again at the welcome talk for new TU families in the parent-and-child room in the old building. The event is organized once a year by the Family Office.
► Home game in the Audimax
Eintracht Braunschweig held its general meeting in the Audimax on Sunday. Blue and yellow jerseys shone everywhere in the largest lecture theatre at our TU – guests we were delighted to welcome.
► University competition in the Science Year 2026 – Medicine of the Future
Researchers from all disciplines are invited to submit creative and interactive communication ideas relating to the medicine of tomorrow. The ten best ideas can win 10,000 euros for realisation. Applications can be submitted until 30 November.
► Call for proposals to promote German-Mexican projects
Researchers from all disciplines (including social sciences and humanities) can apply for the fourth joint call for proposals from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Proposals can be submitted via the elan portal until 25 February 2026.
► Darling of the week
How can communication at our university become more inclusive? In an impact learning event organised by Dr Ingrid Wiedenroth-Gabler, Master’s students in teaching have developed an online course on sign language – which was awarded first place in the “Best Impact Project 2025” competition. The course is now available to all TU employees via Stud.IP.
