► Off for winter break!
Just like animals hibernating, we will be taking our annual winter break. All facilities and institutes at our university will be closed from 20 December to 4 January. Here is an overview of the closing times.
► Season’s Greetings from the president
In a video message, Prof. Angela Ittel wishes all employees and students a peaceful, cheerful and nourishing Christmas season and a good and healthy start into the New Year 2026.
► The legacy of leaded petrol
The Arctic Ocean absorbs a large proportion of the lead released into the environment by humans from the North Atlantic. This is the conclusion of a study conducted by the Department of Environmental Geochemistry in collaboration with international partners and published in “Nature Communications”.
► Memories at risk
Scientists at the Institute of Application Security investigated the security of web archives by deliberately attacking them. They uncovered security vulnerabilities that allow archived web content to be falsified retrospectively.
► Building blocks for successful teaching
In a joint “science room” with the universities of Hildesheim and Hanover, researchers from the Institute of Education are investigating core teaching practices and how they are taught. Prospective teachers will acquire essential practical skills for their future careers in the planned seminars.
► ReTraSON extended – TU Braunschweig involved
The ReTraSON transformation network will be funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy until the end of 2026. The Lower Saxony Research Centre for Vehicle Technology is involved with four institutes in developing a regional transformation strategy for the vehicle and supplier industry.
► Strengthening the regional battery ecosystem in Braunschweig
In November, stakeholders along the battery value chain came together. The aim is to raise awareness of regional expertise and promote new collaborations. The network event was supported by the Ecoversity initiative.
► Project launch KI3nfrastructure: New perspectives for autonomous driving
A consortium of research and industry is developing an AI-based, infrastructure-supported perception solution for autonomous mobility. The aim is to eliminate blind spots and significantly increase the safety of autonomous vehicles in urban and rural areas. TU Braunschweig is providing scientific support.
► Podcast: “Per Anhalter durch den Cyberraum” with TU guest
The new episode features Prof. Eduard Jorswieck from the Institute for Communications Technology. This time, the cyber security podcast focuses on new communication technologies, including the planned 6G mobile communications standard.
► Kinder Uni: Learning with video lectures
Between October and November, junior students aged eight to twelve had the opportunity to learn about art, waste and wastewater, as well as battery recycling. These lectures are now available to watch on demand as videos.
► Exhibition: “Helmstedter Revier”
The results of the “Transformation Helmstedter Revier – from lignite mining area to green energy landscape”’ ideas competition will be on display in the Architecture Pavilion from 8 January. The Regionalverband Großraum Braunschweig and the Institute of Landscape Architecture cordially invite you to the opening event.
► Simulating development processes through play
…was what 139 students at the Institute of Software Engineering and Automotive Informatics were able to do last Thursday as part of the 2nd Braunschweig Lego Scrum. Taking into account changing customer requirements, they built a Lego city on the plaza in the Computer Science Centre.
► Wintry greetings from Trondheim…
are sent to us by TU employee Daria Horte. She spent one week at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology as part of the Erasmus+ Staff Programme.
► Christmas at the Large Wave Current Flume in Hanover
Inspired by the latest driftwood experiments, the team at the Leichtweiß-Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources came up with some creative ideas.
► One of Germany’s best microtechnologists comes from TU Braunschweig
Delijan Seeleke’s performance at our Institute of Microtechnology was so impressive that he was not only the best in his year at the Lower Saxony Chamber of Commerce and Industry, but also the best nationwide. He shares first place with a colleague from Garbsen. Congratulations!
► Taiwan-German Call for Joint Research Projects
The joint call for proposals from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) is open to researchers in the Engineering, the Humanities and the Social Sciences. Applications can be submitted until 25 February.

► Our darlings of the week
… quickly transformed Mensa 1 into a gingerbread house factory: on the initiative of the Institute for Construction Engineering and Management, around 50 students built 100 houses for the Braunschweig food bank in a synchronised production process. Thank you very much for this wonderful Christmas campaign!
