Remembering the victims of National Socialism

On 27 January, the national day of remembrance, our university commemorates the victims of National Socialism. At the public event, which takes place at 10 a.m. in front of the old building, TU members have the opportunity to commemorate the victims with a minute’s silence. 

Mathematics lessons with a global perspective

How can we raise awareness of future issues in mathematics lessons? That’s the goal of the “Think Sustainably — Act Mathematically” project, run by the Institute for the Didactics of Mathematics and Elementary Mathematics at the University of Würzburg. Real-world relevant math problems play an important role in this project.

The nanowire power plant

The voltage from Frank Anang’s microscopically small power plant will supply energy to implanted sensors in the future. In the long term, however, he would like to contribute his metrological expertise to the National Metrology Institute in his home country of Ghana.

Wilhelm Lehmann Literature Prize goes to Prof. Jan Röhnert

Prof. Jan Röhnert from the Institute of German Studies has been awarded the Prize by the town of Eckernförde in recognition of his outstanding contributions to nature writing. The prize, worth 7,500 euros, will be awarded on 9 May at the Literaturhaus Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel. Congratulations!

 New e-learning course: TUrning Green – Basic Knowledge of Sustainability

The online course offered by the Green Office gives interested parties the opportunity to learn about sustainability in 60 minutes. Either complete it flexibly via StudIP or integrate it directly into your courses!

Kinder Uni 2025 on the radio

Here’s how to bridge the gap until the next Kinder Uni: the six-part podcast series on the topic of “recycling” will be broadcast on six Saturdays on Radio Okerwelle in the programme “Okerpiraten”. It starts on 17 January at 12 noon – just tune in to 104.6 Mhz or okerwelle.de.

Call for entries: Bertha Benz Prize 2026 for female engineers

The award honours female engineers whose dissertations have added value for society with prize money of €15,000. Scientific institutions can submit nominations to the foundation until 1 March.

Funding for topics related to gender studies

The Braunschweig Centre for Gender Studies supports teaching assignments, guest lectures and student assistants. Applications for guest lectures and assistants for the 2026 summer semester and for teaching assignments for the 2026/27 winter semester can be submitted until 28 February, or until 31 March after consultation.

► Our darlings of the week…

are the TU Big Band, the TU Choir, the University Orchestra and the students of our Institute of Music and Music Education. To mark the end of the semester, they will be bringing plenty of sound to the stage with swing music, hymns to mobility, symphonic works and winter songs on the theme of “Underneath the Ice” – spread over the next two weeks.
