► Working together for an open and fair society
The Anti-Discrimination Office and TU Braunschweig will work together in the future to create strong and resilient structures against discrimination. In addition, everyone is invited to participate in a nationwide survey on discrimination. A new e-learning course on the General Equal Treatment Act and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) is also being launched for managers.
► New learning factory for circular battery cell production
The LEBAZ project is establishing a new learning factory to provide sustainable training and further education for the battery industry. The aim is to equip skilled workers and students with the practical knowledge and skills required for the responsible use of materials and energy. The planned opening is on 26 June.
► Better by bus and train
Since September 2025, Prof. Alejandro Tirachini has been head of the Institute for Public Transport Planning (IPTP). His research focuses on sustainable and shared mobility, the planning and design of efficient public transport systems, and new mobility technologies. A warm welcome!
► Can cookie banners be made easier to understand?
Minela Bećirović, from the Institute for Application Security, investigated ways to achieve this by using simple language – for greater transparency in data consent.
► Honorary doctorate for Prof. Peter Lemmens
In December, Prof. Peter Lemmens was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kharkiv. This award acknowledges the enduring German-Ukrainian collaboration that has yielded numerous joint publications, projects, and international awards. Congratulations!
► PROMARES project on Radio Okerwelle
The German-Brazilian PROMARES project is developing solutions to reduce plastic pollution in the sea. In an interview on Radio Okerwelle, Prof. Julia Gebert from the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources reports on this.
► CHP and language courses for staff training
Would you like to take a sports class or improve your language skills during working hours? You can do just that in the summer semester with the continuing education programme offered by the Professional and Personnel Development. Registration opens on 16 February at 10 a.m. There are still places available in other courses in the programme too!

Kick-off for the “Ecosystem Social Sustainability”: On 19 February, the Service Information Systems Department at the Institute of Business Information Systems and DenkRaum Braunschweig will bring together business, science, administration, politics and civil society. Register and join in!

► “Momentum”: Funding for recently tenured professors
Scientists who took up their first tenured professorship three to five years ago can apply to the Volkswagen Foundation programme until 14 April. Funding is available for strategic concepts for the further development of the professorship.
► Our darling of the week
… takes us to Vancouver, Canada! Thanks to an Erasmus+ grant, Hanna Willenbockl, a doctoral student at the Institute of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, was able to spend two weeks conducting research at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. In the magazine, she talks about new perspectives on cell metabolism – and her everyday life between the mountains and the laboratory.
