► Students give TU Braunschweig again top marks at CHE Master’s Ranking
18 Master’s programmes received top ratings for study organisation, practical relevance and research orientation. In terms of third-party funding, TU’s mechanical engineering department ranks first in Germany with around €800,000 per professor.
► Ultra-pure waves for key technologies
In the ULTRAPURE project, scientists are working on chips that generate ultra-pure waves. This will enable future applications such as terahertz communication for 6G, portable atomic clocks and quantum computers. TU Braunschweig is coordinating the project, which is receiving EIC Pathfinder Open funding from the EU.
► Level 4 shuttle RAION receives road approval
The autonomous shuttle RAION, developed at the Institute of Vehicle Technology, has received AFGBV road approval. The President of the Federal Motor Transport Authority, Richard Damm, took a look at the research and also learned about the activities at the NFF.
► How can we build upwards safely?
Our university is working with Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences and Rottenburg University of Applied Sciences to develop alternative escape route concepts for buildings where the fire brigade cannot set up ladders. Fire tests involving a 12-metre stairwell at the ZeBra Center of Fire Safety Research are expected to provide valuable insights for construction practices.
► Mini-coaching for work and everyday problems
Stressful everyday life can take its toll – the Psychotherapy and Diagnostics working group’s mini-coachings can help you cope better with stress and personal challenges. This service is offered as part of a research project.
► Inaugural lecture
Prof. Marius Milatz, Institute of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, will hold his inaugural lecture “Interdisziplinäre Geomechanik und Geotechnik in herausfordernden Zeiten des Klimawandels, der Nachhaltigkeit und der Digitalisierung” on 17 December.
► Short-term accommodation for international visiting scholars…
is now available in the Sackring district. The pilot project is a joint venture between our university, the Braunschweig Building Cooperative and the Student Services Organisation of Eastern Lower Saxony. The seven furnished apartments are allocated via the Welcome Support service in the Research Service.
► Changemakers in administration
The network event “Alter Verwalter” highlighted the potential for innovation in administrative structures and brought together committed stakeholders. The focus was on mutual exchange, with inspiration provided by thought leaders from Berlin and Bern. The event was sponsored by the Ecoversity Hub at TU Braunschweig.
► Joint Advent singing
President Angela Ittel and the TU choir invite all employees and students to join them for an Advent singalong on 15 December at 12 noon on University Square. The programme includes songs such as “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and “O Tannenbaum”. Come along and join in!
► How has Santa influenced physical discoveries?
This will be revealed by Prof. Andreas Hördt and Prof. Stefan Süllow on 13 December at Saturday Morning Physics. There will also be experiments to watch!
► An anniversary full of mathematics
The Mathematical Learning Workshop celebrated its 25th anniversary with a festive colloquium. Companions, former and current employees, and those interested in mathematics came together to look back on a quarter of a century of dedicated mathematical support.
► Fair Data Award for Corinna Thoben
At Data Days Lower Saxony 2025, Corinna Thoben (Institute for Data Science in Biomedicine) and Prof. Boas Pucker (PuckerLab, University of Bonn) were presented with the FAIR Software Award Lower Saxony. They received the award for developing the research software bHLH_annotator.
► Double award for urban design projects
Architecture students have had two reasons to celebrate in recent weeks, having won awards for their urban design projects. These designs were created at the ISU – Institute for Sustainable Urbanism. Congratulations to Dana de Voß, Leonie Steinert and Luzia Gödde!
► Dissertation prize for Anna-Sophie Haake
Anna-Sophie Haake from the Institute of History was awarded the University of Münster’s dissertation prize, worth €3,000. Her work deals with the legitimisation of power in early Hellenism. Congratulations!
► Call for proposals: School Outreach Fund
As part of the Ecoversity initiative, our university is promoting joint projects between researchers and educators to bring current research into schools. Researchers and educators can apply as tandems, including those with external partners. The deadline for submissions is 2 February.
► Our darlings of the week
… are the winners of the 2025 “Braunschweiger Bürgerpreis” (Braunschweig Citizen Prize)! They exemplify outstanding academic achievement and exceptional dedication to our campus community. Congratulations to Ahmad Iqbal Bin Mohd Shahir Shamsir, Lena Zackl, Hannes Müller, Hannah Hellmann, Caroline Siebert, Adam Kuchnia and Julian Mathis Vondeberg!
