New Year’s Greetings from the Executive Board

After a two-week winter break, TU Braunschweig has started the new year. In a video, the Executive Board welcomes all members of the university with personal words and looks ahead to the coming months.

University elections: Your vote counts!

From 16 January from 12 noon until 23 January, 12 noon, you can help shape the future of our university with your vote. In the online university elections, you can elect the members of the Senate and their deputies, the Faculty Councils, the Commission for Equality and the Doctoral Candidate Representation. Students also elect the student parliament, student representives and student group councils.

Angela Ittel heads the ForschungRegion Braunschweig

President Angela Ittel takes over the chairmanship of the ForschungRegion Braunschweig this year. She succeeds Prof. Folkhard Isermeyer, President of the Thünen Institute. Under her leadership, the Salon der Wissenschaft, which takes place on 18 June, will be further developed.

On contaminated soils and sustainable landfills

Julia Gebert is the new Professor of Waste Management and Material Cycles at the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources. The biologist and soil scientist, who previously worked at TU Delft in the Netherlands, combines waste management with the navigability of waterways and coastal protection in her research.

Watchdogs and advocates

Direct communication by scientists via their own social media channels played an important role in the public debate during the coronavirus pandemic. In a DFG-funded project, the Institute of Communication Science investigated how this changed science communication. Prof. Monika Taddicken talks about the results in an interview.

Universities and research institutions leave platform X

In May 2024, we stopped communicating via the official TU Braunschweig profile on the social media platform “X”. On 10 January, more than 60 other German-language universities and research initiatives said goodbye to “X” in a joint campaign. TU Braunschweig supports the joint appeal.

Abt Jerusalem Prize: Lectures online

The lectures and panel discussion from this year’s Abt Jerusalem Prize ceremony are now available as videos on the Abt Jerusalem Academy’s YouTube channel, including Prof Thomas Spengler on supply chains in e-mobility and Dr Imke Joormann on emissions targets in aviation.

Application period for the DaF/DaZ programme

The next application period for the DaF/DaZ programme for the summer semester runs from 13 to 26 January. Postdocs and staff can also acquire a certificate of academic and didactic aptitude for tasks related to German as a foreign and second language. An online information session with registration via Stud.IP will take place on 24 January.

Promoting transfer skills in study and teaching

In the Transfer Service workshop “Impact Learning – Definition, Wirkung und Sichtbarmachung von Impact Projekten”, lecturers and staff work together on the topic of practical projects in teaching. The aim is to develop courses in which projects are developed with and for partners in practice. New participants are always welcome. BMBF Call for Proposals: German-Ukrainian Research Cooperation

This call for funding supports pilot projects in which German and Ukrainian partner institutions work together on research and development topics of mutual interest. Project outlines must be submitted by 31 January. If you have any questions, please send an e-mail to Astrid Sebastian.

Funding opportunities in Cluster 5 of Horizon Europe

The National Contact Point for climate, energy and mobility presents the calls of 2025 in six dedicated online events between 21 and 29 January. Registration is required.

TU BigBand Concert

Trumpets, trombones and saxophones of all sizes, accompanied by a five-piece rhythm section, will play at the TU BigBand concert on 14 January at 8pm in the auditorium of the Haus der Wissenschaft. The programme includes classics by Count Basie and Duke Ellington, standards by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Nat Adderly as well as contemporary arrangements by Pat Metheny and Chick Corea. Admission is free.

Ice Breaker: Winter songs in the St. Andreaskirche

Under the motto “Ice Breaker”, the Institute for Music and Music Education invites you to a concert in the St. Andreaskirche in Braunschweig on 17 January. The musical programme ranges from classical music and jazz to rock and pop. Entrance is free, but donations are welcome.

And more concerts: Unichor: Higher – faster – further – Toooor!

Three times, on 18, 19 and 21 January, the TU Choir will present its programme on the theme of competition in musical works at different venues. The programme includes “We are the Champions” (Queen), “Der Kuckuck und der Esel” (Henric Wagenmann) and the spoken “Fussball-Report” by Heinz Benker. The entrance is free.
