► 22.5 million euros for TU Braunschweig
The results of the “Strategic Development of Potential” call have been announced: TU Braunschweig has been successful with its application “Ecoversity – Collaborative space for change” and will receive the double-digit million euro sum from the “zukunft.niedersachsen” science funding programme. Congratulations to everyone involved on this great success!
► 2.5 million euros for Hydrogen Campus Salzgitter
On 3 February, the Lower Saxony Minister of Science, Falko Mohrs, presented the funding decision for 2.5 million euros. The campus is a joint project of regional companies and the city of Salzgitter together with Fraunhofer IST and TU Braunschweig as well as the Allianz für die Region. In the future, hydrogen technologies along the entire value chain will be developed here and specialists will be trained.
► Braunschweig batteries in space
In January, a small satellite was launched into orbit, where it will circle the earth for a year. On board is a structure-integrated battery storage system that was largely developed at TU Braunschweig in the Cluster of Excellence for Sustainable Aviation SE²A.
► Anniversary: Ten years of the NFF research building
On 11 February 2015, the new building of the Niedersächsisches Forschungszentrum Fahrzeugtechnik (NFF) was officially opened. Since then, the research building has not only been a driving force for mobility solutions, but also a place where science, business, politics and society come together. The NFF is looking back on the past ten years and celebrating the anniversary with numerous events throughout the year. Happy Birthday!
► Welcome, Prof. Julian Hegemann!
On 1 February, Julian Hegemann was appointed Professor at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology. He and his team are researching bacterial natural products as a basis for the development of new drugs, such as antibiotics.
► Apply now for the 2026 “Freiraum” call
The “Freiraum” programme is an opportunity to develop and test ideas for teaching. Expressions of interest with a project idea can be submitted from 10 to 20 February at 2 pm via the Foundation’s funding portal. According to the call for proposals, the university management’s approval is required prior to submission. The Vice President for Studies and Teaching has informed all teaching staff about the procedure in an e-mail.
► Call for programme proposals: Women Involvement in Science and Engineering Research
The Department of Science & Technology (DST) of the Government of India and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) are inviting Indian and German women researchers to submit proposals for the “Women Involvement in Science and Engineering Research” programme.
► Career Days for PhD students and postdocs
From 18 February to 7 March, GradTUBS and the Postdoc Programme, in cooperation with the Transfer Service, the Career Service and the Entrepreneurship Hub, are offering various workshops, talks, networking events and webcasts on career planning for PhD students and postdocs. The programme can be found on the Postdoc Programme Website.
► The wonderful world of modelling
Our Picture of the Month for February shows a filigree structure that looks as if it has been covered in a fine layer of snow. The structure was created in the Model Building Workshop using a plaster printer.
► Learning spaces: New student co-working space on campus
In addition to the Student House and the University Library, the knowledge transfer team of the Transfer Service now offers co-working afternoons every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2:30 to 5 pm in the sandbox headquarters/4LAB in the old main building. The next dates: 19 February and 5 March.
► Darling of the Week
Excellent research: Dr. Damien Accoulon received the Franco-German University’s “Interculturality Prize”, worth 2,000 euros, for his dissertation, which was written as part of a cotutelle de thèse between the Technische Universität Braunschweig and the Université Paris Nanterre. We warmly congratulate our darling of the week on this achievement!
