Statement by the University Council

At its meeting on 3 December, the University Council adopted a statement in response to recent local media reports about our university. The Senate and a TU initiative had previously issued statements. 

► National Hydrogen Council visits Salzgitter

On 27 November, a delegation from the National Hydrogen Council visited the Hydrogen Campus Salzgitter to learn about regional expertise and innovations in hydrogen technologies. The 23-member advisory body to the German government was given a concise overview of the activities taking place on site.

► TU Braunschweig at parliamentary evening in Berlin

On 27 November, the focus was on quantum technologies that could revolutionise energy supply, sensor technology, communication, IT and cyber security. The message of the evening to the approximately 220 guests: Braunschweig is among the international leaders in quantum research.

► Expanding the possibilities of perception

Following the final conference, the project on the use of extended reality (XR) in educational contexts is entering the transfer phase. This will include, for example, a regular hybrid lecture series. The next lecture will take place on 9 December on “Designing learning environments with XR”.

► Procurement strategies for complex projects in federal construction

The new headquarters of the Federal Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden is a construction project of superlatives. Together with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), our Institute for Infrastructure and Real Estate Management has developed a procurement strategy.

► How teaching staff feel about international teaching

Our university is continuing to expand its range of English-language courses – but until now, little was known about how teaching staff feel about this development. The “ProDiGI” project is now providing systematic insights for the first time.

► Rittika Ray conducts research at the Institute of Plant Biology for one year

The doctoral student from IIT Roorkee (India) is working in the group of Prof. Debabrata Sircar, an internationally renowned expert in plant metabolomics. Her research stay in Braunschweig builds on a long-standing cooperation between the two institutes.

► Award for Prof. Elisabeth Endres

Prof. Elisabeth Endres, Institute for Building Climatology and Energy of Architecture, was honoured with the ULI Germany Leadership Award in the category “Urban Innovation”. The Urban Land Institute awards are presented for forward-thinking, sustainable ideas and actions.

► Honorary doctorate for Prof. Rolf Radespiel

The University of Stuttgart is honouring him for his many years of cutting-edge research into more sustainable and efficient aviation, as well as his social commitment. Congratulations!

► NFL awards research and young scientist prizes

Five outstanding works in the field of aerospace were honoured at the Research Day of the Lower Saxony Research Centre for Aviation. Congratulations!

► How AI is changing our work environment

… explained by Prof. Markus Langer in the next “Impulshäppchen” event organised by Professional and Personnel Development on 9 December. No registration is required.

► Honouring long-serving employees and farewells

For the third time, employees of our university were honoured for their 25th and 40th anniversaries of service, and colleagues who retired in 2025 were given a farewell ceremony by Vice-President Dietmar Smyrek, the staff council and the equal opportunities committee.

► “How do you bring a breath of fresh air to TU Braunschweig?”

…the “Wissenskiosk” of knowledge transfer wanted to know from our first-year students. The answers show that many ideas are already a reality! Discover now which projects and activities invite you to participate.

► War diaries from Kiev

Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Yevgenia Belorusets has been keeping a diary in which she reports from the embattled capital. On 17 December, the author and artist will read from her book as part of Prof. Jan Röhnert’s lecture.

► Our darlings of the week

… are promoting equal opportunities in motion: thanks to students Sarina Söhl, Charlotta Steinweg and Amelie Rother, free menstrual products are now available on campus. The trio was supported by equal opportunities officer Ulrike Wrobel and a drugstore chain. A truly exemplary project!
