►Election notifications sent out
The election notifications for the online university elections, which will take place from 16 to 23 January 2025, were sent out by email on 28 November 2024. Please use the link sent to check whether your voting authorisation is correct. Changes can still be requested from the electoral office until 09 December 2024, 12:00 noon.
► Progress in inflammation research: CRC in second funding phase
With its expertise, the Department of Biochemistry and Bioinformatics is making a decisive contribution to research into chronic inflammatory diseases. The aim of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) ‘Metaflammation’ is to holistically investigate the links between Western lifestyle and the development of diseases of civilisation such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
► CMOS chips at the cold limit
As part of the EU project ArCTIC, the Institute for CMOS Design at TU Braunschweig is developing cryogenic microelectronics for quantum computers, with a focus on energy-efficient high-frequency circuits. At the same time, in the BMBF project CryoSoQ, they are working on parametric amplifiers for superconducting quantum computers to improve their performance at low temperatures and promote the scalability of the technologies.
► Micro LEDs for neuromorphic computing
A group of researchers at the Nitride Technology Centre (NTC) at the Technical University of Braunschweig is working to make the computers of the future more powerful and energy efficient by developing a neural network of microscopic LEDs for the artificial intelligence (AI) of tomorrow.
► Designs for modern learning spaces
In the future rooms of the ‘Science Schaufenster’ at Waisenhausdamm 8, the exhibition on the ‘Spatial Pedagogy Model Project’ of our University and the City of Braunschweig can be seen until 6 December. The Institute of Educational Science and the Institute for Design and Architectural Strategies are involved in the project with designs for modern learning spaces for the IGS Querum.
► Celebration of service anniversaries and retirements
For the second time, Vice-President Dietmar Smyrek, the Staff Council and the Equal Opportunities Officer bid farewell to staff members celebrating 25 and 40 years of service, as well as to those retiring in 2024 after many years of active service.
► What do you know about mental health?
Junior Professor Sarah Schäfer and Professor Christian Pester are interested in finding out in a short online survey aimed at supervisors of doctoral theses in STEM subjects. The results of the project will help to strengthen the mental health of students, doctoral candidates and supervisors.
► Internationalisierung: Basecamp International Teaching
On 3 and 4 December, the International Teaching Lab of the Project House invites you to engage in dialogue with experts, learn about solutions and discuss options for internationalisation projects in courses, programmes and institutes. The participatory and varied programme includes workshops, keynotes, a panel discussion and time for networking and exchange.
►Congratulations on the anniversary!
Learning together and breaking down language barriers for international students – that is the aim of the programme “Studying Without Language Barriers” (S.o.S.). This year, the joint programme of the International House, the Institute for Electrical Measurement Science and Fundamental Electrical Engineering, and the Institute for Particle Technology is celebrating its tenth anniversary. The occasion was marked on Wednesday with numerous guests in the Architecture Pavilion.
►Award for Erasmus+ project
The Erasmus+ project ‘ICEPELL’ (Intercultural Citizenship Education through Picturebooks in Early English Language Learning) has been awarded the ELTons Award by the British Council. Under the leadership of Prof. Carmen Becker, the Didactics Department of the Institute of English Studies participated in the international project, which promotes intercultural learning and citizenship education in English classes at primary and secondary level through picture books.
► Ukrainian-German Academic Matchmaking
On 11 December 2024 from 15:00 to 17:00, the DAAD’s KIWi Connect programme is hosting a virtual matchmaking event to promote professional collaboration between representatives of higher education and research institutions from Germany and Ukraine. Participants can exchange their interests and explore potential partnerships in thematic breakout rooms for networking and collaboration.
► Become a host for international research talent
On 3 December, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is organising an information event for female researchers who lead a research group at a university or non-university research institution.
► Cost-cutting measures in the DFG Research Training Group (RTG) programme
Due to the tight budgetary situation, the DFG has decided on several cost-cutting measures in the RTG programme. Further information can be found in the DFG newsletter.
► Dictionary of Written Linguistics
In the series ‘Dictionaries of Linguistics and Communication Studies’, Prof. Martin Neef from the Institute of German Studies, Department of Linguistics and Medieval Studies, has published an alphabetical, bilingual specialist dictionary “Schriftlinguistik” containing more than 2,300 entries. The book is aimed at students, teachers and anyone interested in the field of written linguistics.
► Colour is inevitable!
Under the title ‘Colour – Public Space – Wellbeing’, students from the Institute of Landscape Architecture explored the topic of wellbeing in public spaces. They were accompanied by Chilean graphic designer Elisa Cordero-Jahr, whose research focuses on colour.
► Expertise from the region, for the region!
With this in mind, the TechTalks YouTube channel provides a platform for various stakeholders to share their knowledge with the region. The keynote speeches by experts provide valuable insights into future topics in the fields of mobility, digitalisation and sustainability. The aim of TechTalks is to promote knowledge sharing in the region and create learning opportunities.
►Possible improvements to the information portal
A second workshop on improving the information portal will be held via Webex on Wednesday 4 December from 09:00 to 10:00. The potential for improvement identified during the first workshop will be presented and initial possible solutions will be presented.
► Christmas Market on the Universitätsplatz
On 3 December, the AStA invites you to the Student Christmas Market on the Universitätsplatz from 16:30 to 21:00. Waffles, mulled wine and other delicacies will be offered by student councils and initiatives not only for students. For sustainability reasons, please bring your own mug.
► Darling of the week
Our darling of the week makes the campus bloom. On Thursday and Friday, students from Faculty 3 planted flowering islands of crocuses and daffodils at various locations on the Central and North campuses. The campaign, in which a total of around 40,000 flower bulbs were planted, was organised by the Institute of Building Climatology and Energy in Architecture. In the spring, new benches will be installed in the planted areas, and the students will hold a small celebration to mark the flowering of the bulbs. The campus is blossoming!
