Career start at university New group of trainees started at TU Braunschweig

On 1 August, 26 new trainees began their first year of training at Technische Universität Braunschweig. As one of the region’s largest employers, the university offers a wide range of entry-level opportunities, including 17 apprenticeships and two dual study programmes. In keeping with tradition, the orientation days took place on 4 and 5 August, providing new starters with their first insights into university life and work.

Training coordinators Lara Behrens and Christin Jonscher warmly welcomed the participants. Among the new arrivals is Denise Hepfer, who has started her training as an administrative assistant. ‘I am particularly pleased to be able to do a varied training programme in different areas of the TU. The profession of administrative assistant is very multifaceted and TU Braunschweig gives me the opportunity to get to know many different areas of work,’ said Hepfer.

A varied programme for orientation

During the induction days, the trainees learned everything they needed to know about their rights and obligations. The programme included a tour of the university library, welcome speeches by the staff council and the youth and trainee representatives, and a safety briefing on occupational health and safety. In addition, the Occupational Health Management (BGM) and Occupational Health Promotion (BGF) departments presented their services. Icebreaker games and a campus tour ensured that the new colleagues quickly got to know each other. A special highlight is the AHA project ‘Trainees help trainees’, in which experienced trainees are available as contact persons, thus strengthening the sense of community.

Diversity of apprenticeship professions

‘Many people don’t even know that TU Braunschweig is not only involved in research and teaching, but is also one of the largest training companies in the region,’ explains Christin Jonscher. In addition to traditional skilled trades such as bookbinding, the university also offers training programmes in areas such as sports and fitness management and mathematical-technical software development. Prospective skilled workers can choose from a total of 17 professions and two dual study programmes. Interested parties can find all the details and application documents on the training portal of TU Braunschweig. The application deadline for 2026 is 31 October.
