Diversity in Teaching: How to a diversity-friendly learning environment 24. April 2024 | 09:00 h - 13:00 h

You can register for this workshop via: internationale-lehre-ph@tu-braunschweig.de

Universities are seeing an increasing diversity of cultural and educational backgrounds, different lifestyles and life situations as well as social structures that employees and teaching staff bring with them on the one hand, but students on the other hand as well. A constructive, appreciative approach to this diversity – especially in teaching and examination situations – can be a challenge for lecturers.

In this half-day workshop, you will receive practical suggestions on how you can design your courses accordingly and contribute to the academic success of your students without lowering the level of performance. In a peer-to-peer exchange, you will also develop concrete measures tailored to your teaching to deal with diversity.

Selected topics of the workshop are:

  • designing transparent teaching-learning processes and fair framework conditions, as well as their relevance for students’ academic success
  • methods and approaches for aligning your own teaching more closely with students’ individual learning
  • reflecting on your own routines and ways of thinking and dealing with so-called biases

Lecturer

Ines Köhler is a diversity expert at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology where she leads the Gender and Diversity Management. As a trainer, she focuses on diversity topics with a particular focus on unconscious bias and diversity-friendly teaching.
