How can good, secure and fair living conditions for all and community engagement be actively promoted in the Braunschweig region? To work on precisely this, Technische Universit\u00e4t Braunschweig and DenkRaum Braunschweig are bringing together business, science, administration, politics and civil society. The \u2018Werkstatt der Mutigen\u2019 (Workshop of the Courageous) on 19 February marks the launch of the \u2018Social Sustainability Ecosystem\u2019.<\/p>\n

“The term ‘social sustainability’ may sound grand, but at its core it is an effective idea that can be started with simple steps,” says Professor Susanne Robra-Bissantz. She heads the Service Information Systems<\/a> department at the Institute for Information Systems at TU Braunschweig, which launched the network as part of the university’s \u2018Ecoversity<\/a>\u2019 initiative. “When people trust each other, when different groups work together and we are willing to share knowledge, innovations emerge that can directly improve our lives.”<\/p>\n

People who want to change Braunschweig<\/h3>\n

Social sustainability is one of the three pillars of sustainable development, alongside ecological and economic sustainability. Specifically, it involves equal opportunities, fair working conditions, access to education and social cohesion, among other things. Social sustainability is not seen as a niche topic in the network, but as a decisive location factor for the future. The aim of the organisers of the \u2018Social Sustainability Ecosystem\u2019 is to bring together people who want to change Braunschweig \u2013 from CEOs to students, from local politicians to local initiatives. Based on the vision of a region that leaves no one behind, joint activities are intended to promote a socially sustainable future. “As part of the TU Braunschweig’s Ecoversity initiative, we are sending a clear message: the university is opening up and taking responsibility for the region,” emphasises Professor Robra-Bissantz.<\/p>\n

At the start of the kick-off event on 19 February, the question of how cooperation can create capacity for action despite limited resources and an uncertain political situation will be discussed. After this impulse talk, participants are invited to contribute their visions for a livable Braunschweig during the idea check. In addition, current working groups on the topics of education, rural areas, participation and research will introduce themselves and offer the opportunity to get involved. New projects can also be initiated.<\/p>\n
