A milestone for the future: TU Braunschweig’s Ecoversity initiative marks the start of a new era of collaboration between academia, industry and society. This is particularly important in the current climate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The challenges we currently face, such as climate change, economic weakness and widespread diseases, are too complex for individual institutions or disciplines to tackle alone.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is needed now is cooperation that is greater than the sum of its parts. This is exactly where the ‘Ecoversity \u2013 Collaborative Space for Change’ initiative comes in,” says TU President Prof. Angela Ittel. “The need for innovation and high-tech developments requires us to join forces. Science does not see itself as an isolated entity, but as part of a living ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n

Braunschweig and its surrounding area are among the most research-intensive regions in Europe. TU Braunschweig wants to make better use of this location advantage with its partners by working more closely together, pooling resources, creating synergies and acting with greater momentum.<\/p>\n

Joint research projects focus on socially relevant topics of the future. Synergies between TU Braunschweig’s successful research priorities have given rise to two new, large-scale, interdisciplinary fields of research that are closely integrated into the scientific ecosystem: BrightBrain<\/em> and ReSpace!.<\/em> BrightBrain<\/em> focuses on researching neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. ReSpace!<\/em> addresses the issue of resilient and sustainable living in the context of climate change and resource scarcity. These fields exemplify cutting-edge research at TU Braunschweig within a shared network.<\/p>\n

The initiative is being funded by the state of Lower Saxony with \u20ac22.5 million, supported by the Volkswagen Foundation and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture. The official launch will take place on 6 October. An international advisory board comprising regional and international experts will begin its work, supporting the TU Braunschweig initiative over the coming years.<\/p>\n
