How can Braunschweig be better adapted to the consequences of climate change? The people of Braunschweig are now being asked to come up with ideas. The city of Braunschweig and the Institute for Sustainable Urban Development at Technische Universit\u00e4t Braunschweig are calling for creative project ideas that can be implemented in the near future. The contributions should have a showcase character and encourage imitation. The aim of the ‘Co-Adapted Braunschweig’ competition is to help the city adapt to the consequences of climate change through innovative, sustainable neighbourhood projects and to shape a future worth living in. Until 12 March 2025, Braunschweig residents can submit their project ideas to the COABS project, which is jointly supported by the city administration and TU Braunschweig. The projects must take place in the city of Braunschweig and be completed by the end of August 2025.<\/p>\n

Themed ‘Small spaces – big impact: Designing and implementing climate adaptation together! Nature-based – communicative – environmentally friendly – social’, ideas are being sought to make Braunschweig more environmentally friendly and social. Exemplary projects such as the use of rainwater and the optimisation of irrigation in gardens can be combined with climate-adapted cultivation methods. Similarly, the unsealing, greening and shading of recreational areas such as backyards, schoolyards or even the greening of buildings, as well as the creation of small forests and wild corners, can be suitable climate adaptation measures. Information campaigns and action days (e.g. on heat protection) or other activities to promote a climate- and environment-friendly city also increase Braunschweig’s climate resilience and make an important contribution.<\/p>\n

A total of \u20ac6,500 in project funding is available, with a maximum of \u20ac1,000 per project as a recognition bonus.<\/p>\n

Residents, associations, initiatives, day-care centres, schools, housing associations and other non-profit organisations are eligible to apply. Children and young people are particularly encouraged to submit their projects. The project must be carried out by at least two people in the city area. If the consent of a landowner needs to be obtained, this is the responsibility of those submitting the project application.<\/p>\n

The call for projects and the application form, as well as further information, can now be downloaded from the website www.braunschweig.de\/coabs.<\/a> The project idea must be submitted digitally to klimaanpassung@braunschweig.de<\/a>, by post or in person by 12 March 2025. The criteria are innovation and creativity, effectiveness, exemplarity and replicability, co-creation, feasibility and sustainability. In addition to the financial recognition bonus, the COABS project offers advice and networking opportunities to support the implementation and presentation of the projects on 8 May, 14 June and at the end of the COABS project in late summer.<\/p>\n

In the Co-Adapted Braunschweig (COABS) project, the project partners are taking on the challenge of developing an integrated strategy for adapting to the consequences of climate change for the city of Braunschweig by 2025, together with various stakeholders.
