Science-interested children between the ages of eight and twelve can now register for the children’s university lecture “Warum haben b\u00e4ume Stress” on 16 November 2024 in the Main Lecture Hall of Technische Universit\u00e4t Braunschweig. Professor Robert H\u00e4nsch from the Institute of Plant Biology answers these questions: How do plants protect themselves? Why is it important for us humans to support the forest and what can we do to ensure that the forest will soon be better again? The children’s university lecture will be accompanied by the podcast series “Clever nachgefragt!” on the topic of ecology.<\/p>\n

If the forest were a school class, more than three-quarters of the class would be ill. This is the current state of Germany’s forests. Only 20 percent of forest trees are still healthy. The main reason for this is climate change. The earth is now almost 1.5 degrees warmer than it was before factories, cars and planes. As a result of this rise in temperature, plants are increasingly suffering from drought stress. For fungi and insects, on the other hand, the higher temperatures are very good living conditions and they damage the forest. Professor Robert H\u00e4nsch from the Institute of Plant Biology gives children an exciting insight into the subject in the children’s university lecture “Warum haben B\u00e4ume Stress” (Why do trees have stress).<\/p>\n
