Prof. Dr Christina Umst\u00e4tter is the new director of the Th\u00fcnen Institute of Agricultural Technology<\/a> and at the same time Professor of Digital Agriculture at Technische Universit\u00e4t Braunschweig since July 2021. With this joint appointment, the two research institutions have further expanded their long-standing cooperation at the Braunschweig site.<\/p>\n

Christina Umst\u00e4tter studied agricultural sciences at the University of Bonn and the Humboldt Universit\u00e4t zu Berlin. After completing her doctorate in 2002, she worked at the TU Munich and Scotland’s Rural College in Crianlarich before moving to the Swiss Federal Research Station Agroscope in T\u00e4nikon in 2014. There she most recently headed the research group “Automatisierung und Arbeitsgestaltung” (“Automation and Work Design”). She has now started her work in Braunschweig at the beginning of July 2021. The Th\u00fcnen Institute of Agricultural Technology has around 50 permanent and third-party funded positions. Research interests focus on technologies for sustainable agricultural production and for the material use of renewable raw materials. Sensor technology and digital systems are a particular focus.<\/p>\n

The Th\u00fcnen Institute as a federal research institution and TU Braunschweig have maintained close scientific relations for several years. Employees of the Th\u00fcnen Institute work as lecturers or non-scheduled professors at the Carolo-Wilhelmina. Many students take advantage of the opportunity to do their thesis or doctorate at the Th\u00fcnen Institute. Joint appointments were made for the first time in 2017, putting the cooperation on a firm formal footing.<\/p>\n
