Outstanding academic performance and social commitment pay off for five students at Technische Universit\u00e4t Braunschweig. On St. Nicholas’ Day, 6 December, they traditionally received the Braunschweiger B\u00fcrgerpreis (Braunschweig Citizens’ Award), which is endowed with 1,500 euros each.<\/p>\n

Three of the five awards are funded with a total of 4,500 euros from the proceeds of the \u00bbStiftung Braunschweiger B\u00fcrgerpreis<\/a> f\u00fcr herausragende studentische Leistungen\u00ab (Braunschweig Citizens’ Award Foundation for Outstanding Student Achievement). It was founded in 1996 by the dedicated Braunschweig resident Lieselotte Alter, who died in 2011 at the age of 92. In addition, the foundation supports two students in need with a financial volume of 2,000 euros.<\/p>\n

Two further citizens’ awards, also endowed with 1,500 euros each, are provided by the Soroptimist Club Braunschweig and Carl Peter Langerfeldt. A total of 9,500 euros will be awarded this year.<\/p>\n

The award winners<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mandy Hoffmann<\/strong> began her studies at TU Braunschweig at the age of 15 and was one of the youngest students in Germany when she started. For her Bachelor’s studies, she chose Chemistry and Mathematics each as her main subject and studied them in parallel. This summer she completed both degree programmes in the standard period of study with top marks in each. In her Bachelor’s thesis, she combined her interest in Chemistry with mathematical methods and developed new approximation methods for the calculation of molecular properties. Besides her studies, she is an enthusiastic gymnast and volunteers as a coach.<\/p>\n

Max Maschke<\/strong> completed his Bachelor’s studies in Physics at the top of his class. In his Bachelor’s thesis, he investigated novel methods to better describe, understand and design components of quantum computers in the future. In addition to his outstanding academic achievements, he was involved in optimising digital teaching during the Corona pandemic. Furthermore, as a member of the \u201cStudents for Future initiative\u201c, he organises discussions and information events on climate policy at TU Braunschweig and in the city of Braunschweig.<\/p>\n

Karoline Misch<\/strong> is one of the top students in her degree programme in Psychology at TU Braunschweig. She has been actively involved in teaching and research in the Department of Methodology and Biopsychology at the Institute of Psychology for several years, first as a student assistant and since this October as a research associate. Moreover, she is involved in the “Biopsychology Study Group”, in the student associations MethodAid, which advises students on research methods, and in “enactus e. V.”, which develops and supports social and sustainable projects at home and abroad.<\/p>\n

The student Jana Mrowetz<\/strong> is simultaneously studying the two Master’s degree programmes Chemistry and Sustainable Energy Engineering. She convinced in both subject areas with her above-average technical expertise as well as distinctive creativity in problem solving. Outside of her studies, she volunteers in the field of animal welfare and is an active member of “Katzenschutz Braunschweig e. V.”, where she cares for cats in need until they recover.<\/p>\n

Mathematics student Katja T\u00fcting<\/strong> studied online for most of her Master’s studies and, as one of the best Mathematics students of recent years, actively enlivened the interaction between teachers and students. In her Master’s thesis, which resulted from a project with the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), she contributes to a better understanding of measurement processes. In addition to her studies, she volunteers for children’s camps as part of the children’s church service and is very active in sports, for example as a ski instructor for children.<\/p>\n
