Mathematician Prof. Timo de Wolff from the Institute of Analysis and Algebra at Technische Universit\u00e4t Braunschweig took office as the new speaker of the Junge Akademie on 5 June 2022. At the spring plenum in March, the Board was newly elected for a one-year term of office. The members chose de Wolff on the proposal of the designated Board. This is his second term as a member of the Board.<\/p>\n
The tasks of the Board include steering the strategic and content-related orientation of the Junge Akademie, which is discussed in the plenum and realised in various formats and projects by the members. In addition, the Board supports and advises the Junge Akademie’s spokesperson, who heads the Board and represents the Junge Akademie to the outside world.<\/p>\n
“In addition to many fascinating projects by our members, the Junge Akademie has, especially in the last two years, strengthened its connections to politics and dialogue with society through increased engagement in science policy discourse and at the European level. The Board and I are keen to continue this successful development and at the same time strengthen interdisciplinary research work in the Academy,” says the new spokesperson Prof. Timo de Wolff. “Furthermore, in view of the current world situation, we must ask ourselves under what conditions good science can succeed today and how it and a free society are mutually dependent,” de Wolff continues about the plans for the coming year.<\/p>\n
The Junge Akademie has members from various scientific disciplines and the artistic field. They explore the potential and limits of interdisciplinary work in projects, want to bring science and society into dialogue with each other and provide new impulses for scientific discussion. The Junge Akademie was founded in 2000 as the world’s first academy for outstanding young scientists. It is jointly supported by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW) and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
