As part of the \u201cThinIce\u201d project coordinated by the Alfred Wegener Institute, the doctoral student at the Institute for Geosystems and Bioindication regularly travels to the far north of Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n Mathematics promotes young people\u2019s ability to understand complex problems, develop data-based arguments and make informed decisions as responsible citizens. This is confirmed by a <\/span>study <\/span><\/a>conducted by the Institute for Didactics of Mathematics and Elementary Mathematics and the University of W\u00fcrzburg.<\/span><\/p>\n A warm welcome to <\/span>Merle Hinrichsen<\/span><\/a>! She is the new Professor of Empirical Educational Research, specialising in extracurricular education. Her research focuses on how people learn, orient themselves, and find their place in society throughout their entire lifespan.<\/span><\/p>\n Prof. Michel Besserve<\/span><\/a>, Institute of Artificial Intelligence, will hold his inaugural lecture \u201cThe quest for inductive biases in causal artificial intelligence\u201d on 28 January.<\/span><\/p>\n Impact Week<\/span><\/a> focuses on how social impact is created at the university. Prof. Arno Kwade, Vice President for Transfer and Innovation, will kick off the event on 2 February at 6 p.m. at the Braunschweiger Wissensschaufenster. Just drop by \u2013 no registration required.<\/span><\/p>\n From 12 to 14 June, the <\/span>Tag der Niedersachsen<\/span><\/a> will attract numerous visitors to Braunschweig. Anyone who would like to present a topic live on stage can <\/span>apply<\/span><\/a> until 31 January. Information about our university’s joint stand with the Braunschweig Research Region will follow shortly.<\/span><\/p>\n The <\/span>event<\/span><\/a> from 22 to 24 June will focus on the (digital) future of academic education. The programme will take place online and in person \u2013 including at our university. Anyone interested in helping to shape the event can <\/span>submit ideas<\/span><\/a> until 16 February.<\/span><\/p>\n Using digital gaming worlds as a prototyping laboratory for teaching \u2013 Varinia Wittholz and Dr Michael Meyer from the Institute for Information Systems will show how this works on 29 January. Answers to these questions are provided by a <\/span>longitudinal study<\/span><\/a> led by Dr Steffen Jaksztat. Anyone interested is welcome to attend his <\/span>online lecture<\/span><\/a> on 28 January. Registration is not required.<\/span><\/p>\n Each year, the <\/span>programme<\/span><\/a> awards four outstanding early-career female scientists in STEM subjects in Germany with \u20ac25,000 each. The application deadline is 21 February.<\/span><\/p>\n The <\/span>programme<\/span><\/a> funds existing research projects between partners in Lower Saxony and Scotland. Interested parties can find out more at one of the upcoming <\/span>information sessions<\/span><\/a>. The next deadline for proposals is 30 April.<\/span><\/p>\n As part of the Ecoversity initiative, our university supports <\/span>joint formats developed by researchers and educators<\/span><\/a> that bring current research into schools. Tandems consisting of researchers and educators can apply, including those with external partners.<\/span><\/p>\n Together with the University of Rhode Island, our university supports researchers and administrative staff in <\/span>joint projects<\/span><\/a> with up to \u20ac5,000 per project and university.
