This is the fourth year that AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) and the AXA Research Fund have awarded the \u20ac80,000 prize to scientists from around the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_73905\" style=\"width: 860px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/magazin.tu-braunschweig.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/L4A9Y-75PUNAH_GosebergN_02_medium_1500.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73905\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73905\" src=\"https:\/\/magazin.tu-braunschweig.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/L4A9Y-75PUNAH_GosebergN_02_medium_1500-850x567.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"567\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-73905\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Professor Nils Goseberg, Director of the Leichtwei\u00df Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management. Photo credits: Nils Goseberg\/TU Braunschweig<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The AXA IM Research Award recognises Professor Nils Goseberg&#8217;s research into developing nature-based solutions to protect coastlines from extreme weather events and rising sea levels caused by global warming. With his research team at the Leichtwei\u00df-Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources, he is investigating how vegetated dunes can improve the safety and resilience of coastal areas and affected regions.<\/p>\n<h3>Experiments in the Large Wave Flume<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cMy research group uses engineering methods to integrate the properties of natural systems into coastal protection.This is an important contribution to bridging the gap between nature and the necessary technical systems,\u201d says Professor Nils Goseberg. \u201dThe next step will be to investigate how vegetated dunes respond to extreme coastal water levels and waves. The funding provided by the award will enable us to carry out further experiments in the Large Wave Flume at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fzk.uni-hannover.de\/en\/\">Coastal Research Centre<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Meet Dr. Nils Goseberg -
