A new phase in life began for 28 trainees at Technische Universit\u00e4t Braunschweig on 1 August.\u00a0 With a total of 80 trainees in 15 different professions, the university is one of the largest training organisations in the region and this year is also training in the field of mechatronics for the first time. The training started with introductory days on 1 and 2 August.<\/p>\n

“We are proud as a university to be able to offer such a wide range of training opportunities and, above all, proud that you have chosen us,” said TU President Professor Angela Ittel at the start of the induction event: “Use your curiosity, enthusiasm and passion for your training profession to make this a very special time in your life at our university!”<\/p>\n

Training coordinators Lara Behrens and Christin Jonscher also welcomed the new trainees. One of them is Mika Hoyer, who is now starting his training as a sports and fitness specialist. He chose this career path because he enjoys practical work more than theoretical learning: “I also think it’s great that there’s a much wider range of sports on offer at the university and that you spend a lot more time with young people than you would in a fitness centre.”<\/p>\n

A varied programme<\/h3>\n

After a group photo in front of the old building, the trainees were informed by training coordinators Lara Behrens and Christin Jonscher about their rights and obligations during their training. “This was a particularly important part of the programme for me,” said Fatemeh Hamedani. She already has a degree in mathematics from Iran and is now starting her apprenticeship in mathematical-technical software development. “The apprenticeship gives me the opportunity to participate in university life and gain work experience at the same time.”<\/p>\n

The day also included a visit to the university library, a welcome from the Staff Council and the Youth and Trainee Representatives (JAV), and an introduction to health and safety and fire protection. Representatives from the Occupational Health Management (OHM) and Occupational Health Promotion (OHP) departments also gave presentations and wished the trainees well. Kim Celine Salomon livened things up with the “Pausenexpress” sports programme, which consists of 15 minutes of movement, strengthening and stretching exercises that can be integrated into the daily work routine.<\/p>\n

Trainees help trainees<\/h3>\n

A special item on the programme for the new trainees was the presentation of the AHA project “Trainees help trainees”. It was launched in 2018 to promote dialogue and a sense of community among the trainees, and to create contact points for questions. After introductory games on the first day, the AHA team organised a campus rally on the second day, during which the new trainees were able to get to know the various departments and facilities at TU Braunschweig and their fellow trainees better.<\/p>\n
