With the newly opened H2 terminal, H2 research is being concentrated. In <\/span>this interview<\/span><\/a>, David Sauss, Deputy head of siz energieplus, and Professor Bernd Engel, Head of the elenia institute, explain the opportunities this offers, why ageing tests on fuel cells are important and to what extent hydrogen and batteries can stabilise the electricity grid.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25baReminder: Digital Town Hall: Sustainability strategy<\/b><\/h3>\n

In the <\/span>Digital Town Hall<\/span><\/a> on 8 July from 11am-12pm, President Angela Ittel and Vice President Manfred Krafczyk will present the sustainability strategy and explain the understanding of sustainability and the goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25ba <\/span>Phosphorus recycling: from sewage sludge to plant fertiliser<\/b><\/h3>\n

With the <\/span>\u201c<\/span>P-Net<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/a> project, the Institute of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering is significantly advancing the recovery of phosphorus from sewage sludge. The focus is on the production of the phosphorus product struvite. The project partners are now testing a process for struvite precipitation on an industrial scale at the Braunschweig wastewater treatment plant.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25ba <\/span>Good humour at a hair\u2019s breadth<\/b><\/h3>\n

For maximum effect, our <\/span>picture of the month<\/span><\/a> is a particularly small smile. 5 micrometres wide, to be precise. Researchers from the QuantumFrontiers Cluster of Excellence, together with pupils, have engraved it on a single strand of hair.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25ba <\/span>Drawing Room [R]Evolution<\/b><\/h3>\n

The drawing rooms are an important part of the architecture degree programme at our university. From 11 July, the exhibition <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Drawing Room [R]Evolution<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/a> in the Architecture Pavilion will explore the past, present and future of these workspaces. The exhibition has been curated by students Flora K\u00f6nig, Sophia Weller and Pauline Zahn.<\/span><\/p>\n

Professor Ulrich R\u00f6mer, Institute for Acoustics and Dynamics, will hold his<\/span> inaugural lecture<\/span><\/a> \u201c<\/span>Vom Zufall zur Berechnung: Modellierung unter Ungewissheit im Computational Engineering<\/span>\u201d<\/span> on 9 July.<\/span><\/p>\n

On 11 July, around 170 students from the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, Computer and Communication Systems Engineering and Mathematics will present the results of this year’s <\/span>software development internship<\/span><\/a>. Prizes will be awarded to the three best teams.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25ba <\/span>Kick-off event: New call for proposals for climate research<\/b><\/h3>\n

At the start of the<\/span> funding call<\/span><\/a> \u201c<\/span>Microclimate in Urban Areas<\/span>\u201d<\/span> for a Climate Future Lab 2025, the ZKfN office is offering an online event on 9 July from 12:00 to 14:00. \u25ba <\/span>Lower Saxony Summer School: fuel cells and batteries<\/b><\/h3>\n

Fuel cells and batteries are among the most promising technologies for efficient power generation and storage. The <\/span>Lower Saxony Summer School<\/span><\/a> \u2013 organised by EFZN, BLB and CUTEC \u2013 from 23 to 27 September offers students, graduates and young professionals an overview of technologies and practical insights.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25ba <\/span>Online workshop on peer recruiting<\/b><\/h3>\n

Research Services will offer an <\/span>online workshop <\/span><\/a>on July 15, 10:30-11:30 a.m. on the possibilities of (peer) recruiting (early career) researchers and on current calls for proposals and funding opportunities on the topic.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25ba Darling of the week<\/b><\/h3>\n

Cheering and celebrating together during the European Football Championships is fun! With the public viewing in the Grotrian courtyard, the AStA sports department hit the bull’s eye. The crowd was huge and the atmosphere was great. The work of the team, which had been in action since 10 a.m., paid off! The next morning, Felix Pellnath and his team from the sports department set about clearing up. Caretaker Ercan Cotukoglu and his team had already cleaned everything spick and span by this time. The students then thanked the caretaker’s clean-up team with the promise that they would clean up during the night for the next public viewing. No sooner said than done, at 2 a.m. everything was spotless after the round of 16. The caretaker immediately sent a big thank you to the students. Our darlings of the week are, of course, the sports department, the caretaker and his team and everyone who is cheering on the European Football Championships.<\/span><\/p>\n

If Germany reaches the semi-finals next Tuesday, the sports department is planning another public viewing. We are keeping our fingers crossed for this tonight!<\/span><\/p>\n
