Editor: Hannah Kre\u00df<\/span><\/p>\n On 12 March, the new <\/span>Higher Education Development Agreement<\/span><\/a> between the state of Lower Saxony and the Lower Saxony universities, including our TU Braunschweig, was signed. Particularly notable about this agreement is that it provides universities with more autonomy in areas such as the design of study programs and financial planning security. Among other things, future pay scale increases in the personnel sector will be covered by the state.<\/span><\/p>\n The Senate of TU Braunschweig passed the new transfer strategy on 13 March. The strategy\u2019s focus is on the Transfer and Innovation Ecosystems (TIES), which aim to foster active participation in shaping societal transformation processes. More details about the transfer strategy will soon be available from the Transfer Service Office (formerly known as the Transfer and Cooperation House) <\/span>here<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n At the<\/span> University Information Day<\/span><\/a> (HIT \u2013 Hochschulinformationstag)<\/span> on 24 May, prospective students will have the opportunity to get a taste of university life with a varied programme. New this year are the formats \u201cMeet the Faculty\u201d and \u201cMeet the TU\u201d, where visitors get to know the individual faculties and (service) facilities of the TU better. Registrations are possible from 1 April.<\/span><\/p>\n As part of the <\/span>\u201cCo-Adapted Braunschweig\u201d<\/span><\/a> project, a package of measures will be developed in a multi-stage workshop process together with stakeholders from urban society, administration and science as an important building block on the way to Braunschweig’s climate adaptation strategy. The Institute for Geoecology and the SpACE Lab of the Institute for Sustainable Urban Development are involved.<\/span><\/p>\n While computer chips are becoming smaller and faster, the combination of electronics and photonics on a single chip remains unresolved. In the OptoGaN project, Braunschweig and Jena are cooperate on <\/span>optoelectronic components<\/span><\/a> that could be used in quantum computers, for example.<\/span><\/p>\n Despite modern immunotherapies and existing drugs, patients with lung cancer often develop resistance to treatment. To close this gap, an international team led by Prof Thekla Cordes has <\/span>explored potential targets for therapies<\/span><\/a>. The research results were published in \u201cCancer Discovery\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n Dr Arne Seitz was appointed honorary professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering on 6 March. In doing so, the Faculty is <\/span>honouring his outstanding expertise in the field of aviation<\/span><\/a>, in particular in aerofoil aerodynamics, as a scientist and expert advisor for the SE\u00b2A Cluster of Excellence.<\/span><\/p>\n A symposium on \u201cPerspectives for Higher Education Didactics\u201d was recently held to mark the retirement of <\/span>Dr Sabine Marx<\/span><\/a>, the long-standing director of the Center of Excellence in Lower Saxon Higher Education (CELSHE). From 1 April, Volker Voigt will take over the management of the KHN.<\/span><\/p>\n The Research Service has produced a <\/span>handout<\/span><\/a> \u201cResearchers Recruit Researchers\u201d on the recruitment of international researchers. It contains information on bilingual job advertisements and external recruiting formats, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n Nominations<\/span><\/a> for the Hermann-Blenk-Forscherpreis, the Karl-Doetsch-Nachwuchspreis and the VDI Luft- und Raumfahrt-Preis can be submitted by 16 May by email to <\/span>nfl@tu-braunschweig.de<\/span><\/a>. Each NFL institute may submit one proposal for the Hermann-Blenk-Forscherpreis and one for the young scientist awards. Also new: Bachelor theses are also eligible for the young scientist awards.<\/span><\/p>\n As part of the tu4society project, the Knowledge Transfer team will be holding the <\/span>Community Caf\u00e9<\/span><\/a> “Social Innovation\u201d on 20 March at 1 pm in the 4Lab (Sandkasten-Zentrale). Sarah Brauns, founder and CEO of Heart Job, will talk about her start-up project, which aims to bring companies and talents together for greater job satisfaction and potential development.<\/span><\/p>\n There are three courses in the staff training programme on this topic with different focuses \u2013 from recording in the recording studio to post-production. <\/span>Registration<\/span><\/a> is now open via StudIP. There is also a <\/span>new room<\/span><\/a> on the topic of \u201cpodcasts\u201d in the matrix chat, which is intended to serve as a dialogue platform for podcasters.<\/span><\/p>\n Our favourite of the week has deservedly won the <\/span>2023 Heinrich B\u00fcssing Prize<\/span><\/a> with his dissertation. Dr Alexander Henkes developed AI-based methods that greatly accelerate highly intensive calculations.
