\u25baSenate confirms Vice-Presidents Knut Baumann, Peter Hecker and Arno Kwade<\/b><\/h3>\n

On 14 February, the Senate re-elected three extra-professional Vice-Presidents<\/span><\/a>. President Angela Ittel and Vice-Presidents Dietmar Smyrek, Manfred Krafczyk, Knut Baumann, Peter Hecker and Arno Kwade will continue their trustful cooperation in the next term of office. At the same time, they express their deep regret that the Senate did not confirm Vice-Presidents Katja Koch and Tatjana Schneider for a further term of office.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25ba Participants wanted: Diversity Days 28 May to 4 June<\/h3>\n

This year we will try something new \u2013 instead of the Diversity Days we will take a whole week to discuss and get to know more about diversity<\/a>. Together with various stakeholders from the university and the city, an entire week of lectures, workshops and more will be organised. Anymore who would like to take part can register until 5 March.<\/p>\n

\u25ba The Future of Floating Offshore Wind Energy<\/h3>\n

The INF4<\/sup>INiTY<\/a> research project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme and coordinated by the Leichtwei\u00df Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources, was recently launched at our university. The consortium, consisting of 13 partners from eight European countries, aims to develop nature-inclusive designs for subsea components of floating offshore wind installations.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Mathematical Modelling – a very practical approach<\/h3>\n

Katrin Vorhoelter<\/a>; is new Professor for Didactics of Mathematics and Elementary Mathematics. Her research focuses, among other things, on how to enable students to apply mathematical knowledge to real-world problems. Welcome to TU Braunschweig!<\/p>\n

Since the beginning of the year, Ahmed Abdelhamid has been responsible for the German courses at International House Language Centre. In this interview<\/a>, he talks about his first impressions and explains the importance of programmes to learn German for international students.<\/p>\n

\u25ba 104 students receive a Deutschlandstipendium<\/h3>\n

A great success story! 59 female and 45 male students<\/a> will receive a grant of \u20ac300 per month for a year. A total of \u20ac374,400 has been awarded this year. Congratulations and many thanks to the 42 sponsors!<\/p>\n

\u25ba DAAD-Award for international student<\/h3>\n

Another congratulations goes to CSE graduate Gagan Kaushik Manyam<\/a>. He was honoured as the best international student at TU Braunschweig for his outstanding grades and commitment to helping other students.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Seedfunding-Projects with Taiwan Tech sponsored<\/h3>\n

As part of the joint seed funding programme<\/a> with the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, four TU projects have now been selected for the 2024 programme year. The aim of the programme is to strengthen and expand collaboration with Taiwan Tech.<\/p>\n

\u25ba AI Hex Tournament: Who will win?<\/h3>\n

Which AI version of the strategic board game Hex will win? At the end of the computer labs and seminars at the Institute of Mathematical Optimisation, the students’ Hex programs<\/a> will compete against each other on 21 February. Spectators are welcome.<\/p>\n

\u25ba “What does the Nagoya Protocol mean in practice?”<\/h3>\n

On 20 February, Melania Mu\u00f1oz of the DSMZ<\/a> will speak at the Institute of Plant Physiology and Food Chemistry on the problems and possible solutions of the Nagoya Protocols and the legal requirements for the use of biological material of international diversity.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Over a cup of coffee: Getting Harvard excited about Braunschweig<\/h3>\n

At the Harvard Coffee Chat “Work & Research at TU Braunschweig” on 1 March, the Research Service will meet young researchers from Harvard University<\/a> in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, and provide information about current research and career opportunities in Braunschweig.<\/p>\n

… the colleagues from GB3 at the Institute of Plant Biology, especially Mr Gronde and his team. On Wednesday there was a power failure in the central area of TU Braunschweig. They solved the problem expertly and as quickly as possible. Thank you very much!<\/p>\n

Our darlings of the week are all the female scientists at TU Braunschweig and especially those who took part in our video for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science<\/a>. The video has been viewed over 35,000 times on Instagram and LinkedIn alone. We would like to thank you and are delighted that we have so many dedicated women in science.<\/p>\n
