\u25ba Student house receives another award<\/h3>\n

The shower of awards continues! TU Braunschweig and the two architects are delighted to receive the DAM Prize of the German Architecture Museum<\/a>, which was awarded on 26 January in Frankfurt am Main in the presence of Federal Minister Klara Gleiwitz.<\/p>\n

\u25ba #WeRemember<\/h3>\n

In front of the \u201cStolperschwelle\u201d in front of the Historic Main Building, TU members commemorated the victims of National Socialism with a minute’s silence. In their speeches<\/a>, President Angela Ittel and Steffen Dohmen from the AStA also built a bridge to the present day.<\/p>\n

\u25ba \u201cRacism-critical university\u201d<\/h3>\n

… is the TU focus topic this year. TU is providing information and advice on the topic through workshops, readings, discussion rounds, lectures and exhibitions, with the aim of empowering people affected by racism. An internal kick-off event with expert Sabrina Rahimi took place this week.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Aviation: Less air friction, fewer emissions<\/h3>\n

Understanding boundary-layer behaviour is of central importance for the development of efficient, safe and high-performance aircraft. The SE2A Cluster of Excellence for Sustainable Aviation has succeeded in optimising and testing the boundary layer with the help of 3D-printed suction panels.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u25ba Introduced: Prof. David Rival<\/h3>\n

\u201cMy goal is to discover beauty and complexity in the world that surrounds us\u201d says Prof. David Rival, Head of the Institute of Fluid Mechanics<\/a>. His research approach: Finding approaches to solve aerodynamic problems for humans by observing nature.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Congratulations!<\/h3>\n

Wolfgang Sunder<\/a> from the Institute of Construction Design, Industrial and Health Care Building (IKE) has been appointed \u201cau\u00dferplanm\u00e4\u00dfiger Professor\u201d by our President. This honours his many years of outstanding research work in the field of healthcare construction.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Inaugural lectures<\/h3>\n

There will be two inaugural lectures next week: \u2013 on 6 February: Prof. Sabrina Zellmer<\/a>, Institute for Particle Technology, about \u201cEinblicke in die nachhaltige Batterie- und Brennstoffzellenproduktion\u201d and on 7 February: Prof. Sebastian Andres<\/a>, Institute for Mathematical Stochastics, about \u201cIrrfahrten, zuf\u00e4llige Umgebungen und ihr Verh\u00e4ltnis zu Gau\u00df.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u25ba How much recycled paper have we used?<\/h3>\n

TU Braunschweig is currently collecting data on paper use in 2023 for the annual university competition Paper Atlas. The Green Office is asking all faculties and central institutions to submit their data via a survey tool<\/a> to ensure successful participation.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Datathon: Interested in geodata?<\/h3>\n

What geodata is freely available and how can it be used? On 13 February, a datathon<\/a> will be held at TU Braunschweig as part of the international Love Data Week. Braunschweig research data experts are also offering other events<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25baSeminar: Market-based exploitation of research results<\/h3>\n

How do you turn research results into a marketable business model? The seminar \u201cTechnology Business Model Creation\u201d (TBMC) brings students and researchers together to develop innovative products from scientific research results. Registrations<\/a> are possible until 16.02.2024.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Video on funding opportunities for engagement and sustainability<\/h3>\n

All TU members can carry out individual sustainability projects in line with the 17 sustainability goals via the \u201cSandkasten\u201d platform of the Knowledge Transfer department in the Transfer and Cooperation House. A video<\/a> explains exactly how this works and what funding opportunities are available.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Appointment as an expert advisor for civil protection<\/h3>\n

Prof. Lars Gerhold from the Institute of Psychology, Department of Psychology of Socio-Technical Systems, has been appointed to the independent scientific advisory board of the The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance<\/a>. The group of twelve specialist representatives advises from a scientific perspective.<\/p>\n

\u25ba DFG call for proposals for major instrumentation initiative 2025<\/h3>\n

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) invites researchers to submit proposals for the establishment and launch of a major instrumentation initiative<\/a>. Proposals received by the DFG up to and including 4 June, can be expected to be evaluated this year (probably in November).<\/p>\n

\u25ba Makerspace for digitally supported collaboration between students<\/h3>\n

Where can software create concrete added value in the design of teaching? On 29 February, a makerspace will take place in G\u00f6ttingen, Hanover and Braunschweig at the same time.\u00a0 Registrations with desired location by 16.02. via info@co3learn.de.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Picture of the month: Novel propeller under test<\/h3>\n

This image was created as part of a project in the SE\u00b2A Cluster of Excellence. The aim is to understand the interaction between propeller and wing in new and future aircraft configurations. The image shows a new type of propeller with a typical helical wake.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u25ba The tuba is our darling of the week<\/h3>\n

The instrument of the year 2024 is pretty \u201cheavy metal\u201d<\/a>! That’s why TU Braunschweig orchestra is dedicating an entire symphony concert to the tuba this semester. The concert will also include a solo performance by tuba soloist Daniel Barth. The concerts will take place in the Audimax on 4 February at 17:00 and on 5 and 6 February at 20:00, and admission is free. Look forward to a musical experience!<\/p>\n
