The Executive Board expresses gratitude to all members of the University for active participation in the Foundation University Information Week and the many trustful discussions. The video recording of the opening event of the Information Week is available on the website<\/a> in the login area.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Open Access: DEAL agreements signed<\/h3>\n

The TU9 universities have signed DEAL agreements<\/a> with Elsevier, Springer Nature and Wiley. In doing so, they are strengthening the establishment of Open Access publishing as the standard publication channel for researchers and free access to research articles.<\/p>\n

\u25ba First Presidential Lecture on 15 February<\/h3>\n

Braunschweig Scientific Society (BWG) and TU Braunschweig jointly initiate a public lecture series featuring outstanding scientists to provide insights into their research and engage in discussions on socially relevant issues. At the inaugural event on 15 February<\/a> Professor Tina Malti will deliver a lecture on the topic \u201cPaths to a Humane Global Community\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Research mission of the German Marine Research Alliance launched<\/h3>\n

Under the title \u201cmareXtreme\u201d<\/a>, around 150 scientists will be researching strategies for dealing with extreme marine events and natural hazards over the next three years. The joint project METAscales, coordinated by the Technical University of Braunschweig, is also part of the mission and is actively supporting the transformation of climate change adaptation on coasts in real laboratories.<\/p>\n

\u25ba How Europe\u2019s megafloods are becoming predictable<\/h3>\n

International data from hydrologically similar areas can provide important information for forecasting extreme floods. This is the conclusion of a study by Prof Kai Schr\u00f6ter<\/a> of the Leichtwei\u00df Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources. The researchers analysed data from more than 8,000 water level stations across Europe – from the years 1810 to 2021.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Introduced: Prof Ulrich R\u00f6mer<\/h3>\n

In 2017, Ulrich R\u00f6mer<\/a> took up his junior professorship at the Institute of Dynamics and Vibrations. Six years later, he was appointed full professor at the Institute of Acoustics and Dynamics. There, he works on methods to improve the validity of forecasts and models.<\/p>\n

\u25ba \u201cMarketing is much more than advertising!\u201d<\/h3>\n

After ten years in the UK, Prof Christof Backhaus<\/a> has returned to TU Braunschweig. Since the beginning of the winter semester he has been head of the Institute of Marketing. His research focuses, among other things, on issues related to the change towards more sustainable mobility.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Save the date: International Days in April<\/h3>\n

For the first time, TU members can find out all about international topics at TU Braunschweig at the International Days from 24 to 26 April. The event is organised by the International House on campus. Details of the programme will follow in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Strengthening Professional Selection \u2013 Minimising the Impact of Unconscious Bias<\/h3>\n

The Personal Development<\/a> is offering three additional workshops in February and March. Participants will learn how to improve selection processes to attract talent, identify the right people and understand the impact of unconscious decision making and thinking.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Scholarships for academics at risk<\/h3>\n

Applications for the 14th round of the Philipp Schwartz Initiative can be submitted until 16 February. New is the central application procedure for all nominations via the university. If you have any questions or nominations, please contact Dr Astrid Sebastian<\/a> from the Research Services.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Evaluation of the Teaching Toolkit<\/h3>\n

All lecturers are invited to take part in the Teaching Toolkit survey<\/a>. The Teaching Toolkit<\/a> provides information, materials and handouts for teaching.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Applying for DFG Collaborative Projects<\/h3>\n

Updated internal TU procedures for applying for, organising and coordinating DFG Collaborative Research Centres (SFB, SFB\/TRR, RTG, FOR) with the Executive Board are now available on the Research Services website<\/a>. They now also contain detailed descriptions categorised by proposal phase (pre-proposal and full proposal).<\/p>\n

\u25ba To inspire enthusiasm for the world of physics…<\/h3>\n

is the aim of the Physics Information Day<\/a> on Saturday 27 January. The programme includes fascinating hands-on experiments such as quantum mini-golf, lectures, lab tours, presentations from the institutes and a tour of LENA.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Darling of the week<\/h3>\n

There are many exciting TU projects for students. This week, the Institute for Music and Music Education showed pupils from the secondary school in Uelzen what a music lesson can look like<\/a> and what can be learnt in two days. Together with the music education students, led by Peer Frenzke, they reinterpreted the song\u00a0 \u201cControl\u201c\u00a0 by Zoe Wees.<\/p>\n
